WHAT WAR WIDOWS SHOULD NOW I HOOT PENSIONS AND COMHKSffIIIM: ( We are convinced that there are now hundreds, yes thousands, of wid ows of deceased veterans in North Carolina who do not know the rights and benefits to which they would be entitled if and when they properly ap plied for same. The moat generous legislative provisions imaginable, as you know, are of no benefit whatever to disabled veterans or their depend ents who are not informed t' at such benefits exist. Benefits must be prop -erly applied for to be received. We sincerely believe there are thou sands of widows of World War I veterans in North Carolina who do not know that w'do-**i o< v ;erans of World War I whose income is SI,OOO a year or less are entitled to a pension of $42 a month from -he Federal Government. There is nothing auto matic about this or any other such benefit. It must be properly applied for to be received, and payments can be made only fi. m date of applica tion. The proper proofs must be pre sented. 'Such Wor d War I veterans* death may have been from any cause whatever (non-service-connested). The District Service Officers of the N C. Veterans Commission and the County Veterans Service Officers in plastical ly every county in North Carolina stand ready, willing- and anxious to assist any widow of such veterans of World War I to properly file applica tion for such monthly benefit and help her prove her claim, if she is eligible for such ’benefits. The basis of eligibility for this benefit is as follows: Service toy the veteran must have been (between 'April €, 1917, and November 11, 1918, and discharge or release from active duty must have been under other than dis honorable conditions after 90 days or more of military service. For the purpose of a pension a widow must have 'been married to a World War. I veteran before December 14, 1944, or 10 or more years to the person who served, and must not have been re married. Such deceased World War I veterans need not have been dis abled at all, The monthly rates of this benefit are: Widow, no child —$42. Widow, one child—s 64 (each additional child $6.) No widow, one child —$21.60. 'No widow, two children—s32.4o. No widow, three children —$43.20 (each additional child $4.80). This 'benefit is not payable to a widow without a minor child or children during a calen dar year when her annual income ex ceeds $2500. Please note that the above-described benefit under the above conditions is for eligible wid ows and for orphans of World War I veterans only. In order for the widow of a veteran of World War II to qualify for the above benefit, the World War II vet eran must have been discharged under conditions other than dishonorable and at the time of death was receiv ing or entitled to receive compensa tion for 10% or more service connect ed disability; or, having served at least 90 days during World War II (or having been discharged for disa bility incurred in the line of duty) at time of death had definitely ascer tainable service-connected disability. We sincerely hope that the time will not be long until all the various vet erans organizations will succeed in their efforts to get legislation enacted into law by Congress to provide the above-described benefits for eligible widows and orphans of World War II veterans upon exactly the same basis as widows and orphans of World War I veterans now have under existing ROLL-O-MATIC Hnee-Acfioii' Front Wheels HH| field Installation IHBig^^HpHPBI on JOHN DEERE 1 "a';"b;e"g" tractors 1 Now-your John Deere or “G" - ' V |B Tractor can be equipped with Roll-0-M*tic, ," C ',; qB the “knee-action” front wheels that make v ~ steering easier, offer you smoother, surer* ■ footed operation than ever before.
