PAGE TWO Colored School Badly Crowded Enrollment This Year Is Largest In History Os School On Wednesday morning, September 6, the Edenton colored high school opened with the largest enrollment in the history of the school. The auditorium was filled to its capacity with the vestibule and all aisles crowded so that standing room was not possible. The school song opened the exer cise after which, the principal heartily welcomed the student body and gave necessary information to the group. Then the members of the faculty were introduced to the students. The school feels fortunate to secure, for the first time, the services of an art teacher, Miss E. D. Guest. Physi cal education and music have been re stored to the curriculum, where Miss W. King and A. Kemp teach respect ively. Another first—Vocation home economics teacher, Mrs. A. Cooper. Additional teachers, Mr. Butler, Social Science; Mrs. R. H. Frinks, grammar grades; Mrs. Mabel B. Collins and Miss R. Burrell, primary grades. Because of the large number of stu dents it is now impossible for them to be in school all day, therefore, it is necessary to have morning and af ternoon sessions. School officials are eagerly awaiting the completion of our. new building which will be ready for occupancy in a few weeks. C. J. Phelps Fined On Parking Meter Charge C. J. Phelps, former Edenton police man, was sentenced by Judge Marvin Wilson in Recorder’s Court Friday to 90 days on the roads, suspended upon payment of SIOO fine and costs of court and showing good behavior for two years. Phelps was charged with stealing money from Edenton’s park ing meters while he was on duty as a policeman. Phelps was found guilty in Record er’s Court on September 8, but Judge Wilson withheld sentence due to a, charge of breaking into the Albemarle Case, which was tried in Superior Court. The case was non-suited in Superior Court.
