Democrats Urged To Register For flection News Voters May Regis ter Saturday, October \ 21 aitd 28 Registration books opened through out North Carolina on Saturday, Oc tober 14th, for the registration of new voters, -and Chairman Everett Jordan of the State Democratic Executive Committee urged all Democrats who fall in this classification to register for the General Election *on November 7th. The registration books will be open on October 14th, 21st and 28th at the precinct polling places. Between those days registration is permitted at the home of the Registrar in each pre cinct. I Those who are entitled to register for this General Election are citizens who have reached the age of 21 years since the last voting and those who have completed one year of residence in the State and four months in the precinct. - Mr. Jordan called the matter of registration to the attention of all of ficials of the Democratic Party in the various counties and precincts in the hope that every citizen entitled to vote would take advantage of this opportunity and register for this pri vilege. The County Chairman at the same time pointed out that absentee bal lots may be used in this General Election. Civilians may make appli cation for absentee ballots within 30 days before the General Election and not less than 2 days before the Gen eral election. They must apply indi vidually to the Chairman of the County Board of Elections in their re spective counties. C., THURSDAY, OCTOBER 26, 1950 Apples And Turkeys On Plentifuls Lists Apples, turkeys, and cranberries will be among the most plentiful foods in the Southeast in November, Miss Colwell, county home demonstration agent for the Sitate College Exten sion Service said this week. This trio, tops on the U. S. De r partmervt of Agriculture’s November plentiful foods list, offers good buys and good eating for Southern shop pers, Miss Colwell said. The turkey crop for this year is a record high, cranberry production is at a near record, and the apple crop for this season, though below last year’s Large crop, is 10 per cent above average, USOA reports show. This , season’s apple harvest is estimated r at 120 million bushels. As good vegetable buys, Miss Col-1 s well suggested onions, cabbage, car -3 rots, Irish potatoes and sweet pota r toes—all on the plentiful list for No- V vember. Driver’s license examiners approv ed 32,731 applications. A total of 27,776 road tests were given and 28,130 operator’s licenses were issued. Learner’s permits were issued to/14,- 804 persons and duplicate licenses to 2,852. Chauffeur’s licenses were is sued to 1,750 applicants. A total of $61,185.50 was collected by driver’s license examiners. Persons who had previously held licenses and failed to pass their re examinations for the following rea sons: Signs, 775; eyes, 609; rule?, 875; road test, 638; equipment, 68; miscellaneous, 28.
