PAGE TWELVE UN Flags Presented ToTownAndCoiiiity Ceremony Held on Court House Green Last Week United Naitdons flags were present ed to Wesley Chesson, Jr., Town Clerk, representing the Town of Eden ton, and W. W. Byrum, chairman of the County Commissioners, in a brief ceremony held last week on the Court House Green. Presentation of the town flag to Mr. Chesson was made by Mrs. Wesley Chesson, Sr., County Council president, and the flag to Mr. Byrum was presented by Mrs. W. A. Harrell, president of the Enterprise Club, which will be used in Chowan County’s historic Court House. These flags were made by the En terprise and Oak Grove Home Dem onstration Clubs. Other flags presented, made by each of the Home Demonstration Clubs in the county, were to Chowan High School, presented by the Ryland Club; Edenton High School, by Byrd Club; Rocky Hock School, by Beech Fork Club; Business and Professional Women’s Club, by the Advance Cluib. The remaining flags will be kept by the clubs or be given to the local churches. In connection with the flag making program in Chowan County, the citi zenship leader in each clud gave a talk on the United Nations at each of the October club meetings. A feature of the observance of United Nations Week was an exhibit at the Chowan County Fair, showing the flags of all the member nations with blue streamers leading from each of these to the globe of the earth, representing unity of all the nations working toward world peace. The display was flanked by the American flag and the United Nations flag. Announcement .....
