PAGE TWELVE Frst Airplane flight Celebration Sunday At KiU Devil Hid Air Show Feature Over Wright Brothers Monument As a tribute to the memory of Wil bur and Orville Wright, a great dis play of the progress that has been made in flight of airplanes during the past 47 years was demonstrated over the Wright Memorial atop Kell Devil Hill Sunday morning, December 17. Several modem types of military planes in addition to blimps, helicop ters and other flying equipment were included in the display. iMajor Williams, noted speed ace and long flier of national note was in charge of the celebration this year. He took an active part in the cele bration at Kill Devil Hill which be gan at 1 o’clock and featured not only the air show, but also music by the gaily uniformed Elizabeth City High School Band, and the laying of a wreath at the base of the great monument erected by the government to commemorate man’s conquest of the air by the Wrights on December 17, 1903, when they successfully flew their airplane there. Following the celebration at Kill Devil Hill, there was the annual First Flight Anniversary banquet in the din ing room of the Carolinian hotel. Sev eral prominent speakers took part in the banquet program at which more than 125 persons were in attendance. Nothing more impairs authority than a too frequent or indiscreet use of it.
