PAGE FOUR Fanners Resort To Tie For Drainage Projects Completed to Drain Low Sections On Farms R. C. Holland and A. 'M. Forehand, Chowan County farmers, have recently installed approximately 4,000 feet cxf farm drain tile. The tile installations were made to improve the drainage of low-lying basin or (bottom areas. Mr. Holland put a part of his tile draim—l,6l2 feet—on his Bowen farm in the Cowpen Neck community. Ap proximately 1,200 feet were layed in the bottom area on the John Perry farm in Brialle community. Six-inch tile was used at both places. (Mr. Forehand located his tile drains in a bottom area on his home farm. He used 1,000 feet of four-inch tile. These drainage improvements were made as part of the soil and water conservation farm plans which these farmers developed in recent years with the Albemarle Soil Conservation: District. R. C. Jordan and George i Conner, farm planning technicians off ! the Soil Conservation Service, assist-' ed Holland and Forehand with the de- ' sign of the tile systems, the surveying and plotting of grade lines, the set ting of grade stakes, and supervision of the tale setting. Both of the tile projects were estab lished with a minimum of a three-foot coverage and two-tenths foot fall per hundred feet, according to Mr. Jordan.
