C-, THURSDAY, APRtPL 19, 1961 H Arrested By -Jn Man* Traffic Violations and Drunks Lead List Os Arrests Edenton police arrested 60 persons during the month of March, according to a report of Chief of Police George i 1. 'Dail. Os .these arrests, 55 were found guilty, four not guilty and one arrest made for an out-of-town depart ment. Those arrested 35 males, three white females, 21 colored males and six colored females. Miscellaneous trpiffic violations headed the list with 18 arrests, follow ed by drunks with 11 and miscellane ous arrests with 10. IFines amounted to $716 and costs . $402.16 or a .total of $1,1117.15, of which amount $149j20 was turned back to the town in way of officers’ fees. 'During the month 98 calls were an swered, five accidents investigated, two funerals worked, 49 street lights reported out, 21 courtesies extended, 19 doors found open, 21 investigations made, two fire calls answered, one fire discovered, 396 citations issued. The police made 646 radio calls and were on the air '53 .minutes and 50 seconds. TWO 'FIRES IN MARCH Fire 'Chief R. K. .Hall reports that during March there were only two fires in Edenton. Damage amounted to SSO, which occurred at the Tri angle Restaurant. Minutes Os County Board Os Education | The 'Board of Education met April 2, 1951, at 10 A. M., in the superin tendent’s office. The following mem bers were present: G. 18. Potter, Chairman, J. I. Boyce, G. E. Nixon, Carey Evans, 'Conroy 'Perry, and D. H. Berryman. •Mr. Potter, chairman, called the meeting to order and requested the reading of the .minutes of the previous meeting. The minutes were read and upon motion made and passed, same were approved as read. The report ot- the 'County Treasurer for March was read and same was approved by motion made and passed. The reports of the Local School 'Fund Treasurer were read for Chowan High .School, (Rocky Hook Central 'School and the Negro Schools, and same were approved upon motion made and Passed,' 1 i . , , The superintendent’ admed that the’ 'State Inspector for the Division of Schoolhouse Planning and Surveys,! with the Architect, Frank W. Benton, | would be .at the White Oak School j Tuesday, April 3, for final inspection j of the building, around noon, and j that it would be necessary for the. Board of Sducation to be present, to accept or reject the project The bids on the Yeopim, Wild Cat, Virginia Fork and Old Edenton A w ere considered with the Chairman of tiie Board of Trustees and the Super intendent of the Edenton Administra tive Unit. The Board was advised that the bid on the Old Edenton A of ?2,760 had been raised and would be j re-advertised for 15 days. The following motion was made and ! passed with respects to the other I three buildings and sites: j To reject the bid of $525 by H. IS. j Small on the Wild Cat building and ! site and to negotiate private sale.- | To reject the bid of $630 by Dr. 0. . J L. Holley on the Yeopim building and I site, and to negotiate private sale. I To accept bid of $925 by C. E. | 'Small on the Virginia Fork building j and site. The superintendent suggested that j immediate siteps be taken to sell the j 'Center Hill, (Britts, Hudson Grove, ! Green Hall and Warren Grove tbuild- I ings and sites as soon as they were j vacated. The Board passed a motion that the above buildings in the County Unit be' advertised for sale as soon as vacated, and that the advertisement provide for the same manner of sale as those previously advertised; thiat is tile building first, the site second, and then the building and sjte. Upon the request of the Board of Trustees of .the Edenton Unit, the Board passed a motion authorizing the transfer of the title of the St. Johns site and building to the Edenton 'School Administrative Unit. The Board of Education then went into executive session—and reported the re-election of W. 'J. Taylor, Su perintendent for the next two yean, by motion unanimously passed. The Board by a motion unanimously .passed, re-appointed 8. IW. Evans,' Willie 'Saunders and Carey HolloweU as District Committee members fort the next two years. The Board was of the opinion that the District should be more fully represented on the Cooj mittee, and by motion made and past ed unanimously, appointed Weldon 'A. HolloweU and E. G. Blanchard to serve with the three former members for the next two years. The superintendent read the bills for the month of March, same were approved upon motion made and pass ed in the amount of $3,086.22. Gen eral Expense, $780.60; Veterans Train ing Program, $802.18; Lunchroom (Program, $791.91; Veterans Depred ation Fund, $22.13; Gymnasium Fund, $20.00; Teacherage Fund, $30.40, arid Vocational Teachers’ (Salary and Trav el, $639.00.
