A total of 7,168 applications were disapproved and 35,029 were given ap proval. Operators obtaining licenses for the i first time under the re-issuance pro- ' gram totaled 22,447 and those 6b- : vtaindng renewals totaled 8,<518. Dupli cate operators licenses numbered 2,- , 890. A total of 1,017 chauffeurs ob licenses for the first time and 57 had held licenses previously. Operators who had received licenses' previously failed their examinations for the following reasons: signs, 569;; eyes, 416; rules, 656; road test, 395; equipment, 44; miscellaneous, 28. Chauffeurs who had held licenses previously failed for the following reasons: signs, 13; eyes, six; rules, eight; road test, one, miscellaneous, two. 4 Operators obtaining licenses for the first time under the re-issuance pro gram failed on tjhe following counts: signs, 898; eyes, 526; rules, 1,372; road test, 1,822; equipment, 86; miscellane f ous, 26.
