Edeuton’s Aces defeated Creswell
High School 9-6 Friday afternoon on
Hicks Field, when Gene Taylor, on .the
mound for the Aces, allowed only four '
hits, v Aiding the Aoes’ cause was
timely hitting !by Haywood Rogerson
and seven errors made by the visitors,
together with hit 'Aces reaching base
on balls.
Creswell scored three runs in the
-first inning, two in the second and
one in the sixth, while the lAces scored
* in every inning except the third. They
chalked up two rung in the first, three
in the second, one each in the fourth
and fifth and two in the sixth.
Cannady and Rogerson led at bat for
•the Aces with two hits each, while
Craddock led the visitors with two
hits.
Two Insurance Men
Guests Os Metropolitan
Mayor Leroy Haskett and Jesse
White will leave today (Thursday) for
Washington, D. C., to attend the
1960 Honor Club of the Metropolitan
Life Insurance Company. They will
•be entertained two days and will be
greeted by high officials "of the com
pany in recognition of writing new
business.
Mr. Haskett will also go’ to Wdl
liamsburg on May 4 to attend a meet
ing of the Veterans Association of the
Metropolitan Company. He is one of
the few in the Portsmouth District
who is qualified as a veteran, having
been employed over 20 years, and has
a high nating for writing new busi
ness.
Mrs. Sousanne White
Passes Away At Gliden
Mrs. Sousanne White, 87, widow of
the late Henry L. White died at her
home near Gliden at 3:30 o'clock Sun
day morning. She had been in failing
health for a long time, having been
an invalid for the last two years.
Surviving are three sons, Ernest L.
White of Edenton, C. B. /White of Ra
leigh and W. R. White at home; two
daughters, Mrs. M. H. Perry) of Ob
rien and Miss Alberta White at home;
a brother, Alex Parks of Hobbsville
and three grandsons.
Funeral services were held at the
home Tuesday afternoon with the Rev.
Paul Lemons, pastor of the Warwick
(Baptist Church, officiating. Inter
ment was made in the family ceme
tery at Gliden.

Little Interest In
Election On May 8
Friday Is Deadline For
Candidates to File
For Office
Up to Monday of this week little
interest was shown in the forthcoming
Edenton election which will be held
-Tuesday, May 8.
The deadline for candidates to file
for the ejection will be Friday of this
week. In the election a Mayor, treas
urer, three members of the Board of
Public Works, four Councilman and
two councilmen-at-lange will be elect
ed.
LEGION MEETS MAY 1
A meeting of Edward G. Bond Post
of the American Legion will be held in
the Edenton armory Tuesday night,
May 1, at 8 o'clock. All Legionnaires
are especially urged to attend.

Lions Club Meeting
Several high school students and
some local people who participated in
