PAGE FOURTEEN ' THE SOMB NBUSHTTER "* | 1...... By HAZEL LEARY Hi Friends: It won’t be too lon* now before the end of school. The Seniors are to take their exams on May 17 and 18. Then we’ll he free to practice our class night play that is if we pass our exams satisfactorily. This week we have hard work to look forward to. Last week we had fun. Well, you know life can’t al ways be play. All of the Seniors would like to thank Mrs. Evelyn Jackson, Mrs. N. J. George, and Mrs. Medlin Belch for the nice party and square dance that they gave us last Tuesday night. It was the first time that many of us had ever done any square daflfc ing and we really enjoyed it. We’d al so like to thank Mr. Joe ISwaimer for so patiently teaching us how and call ing the figures. Another party which we enjoyed immensely was the dinner which Mrs. S. F. Small gave for the Seniors at her home last Thursday evening. The meal was delicious. After eating, we all sat around and sang a few songs out there In the yard. This was one of the few times that the Seniors were serious and there were quite a few heavy hearts as they look ed at one another and realized that each of them would soon be going their separate ways. Well, we’ll leave you for this week Kelly Jordan Byrum On Campbell Team Kelly Jordan Byrum, son of Mrs. Beatrice Byrum of Ryland plays short stop on the Campbell College base ball team this season. Before entering Campbell, Byrum went to the Chowan High School, where he played three years of bas ketball and three of baseball. As a junior he was selected best-all-around sport, and a senior he was chosen for the all-conference team. He was also active in the Future Farmers of America and the 4-H Club, holding various offices in each. Byrum played short stop on the var sity nine in baseball last year. He was also a regular on the freshman base ball team, and on the cross-country team. Byrum says, “playing baseball is the real life for me.” If he doesn’t enroll in the Air Force or Navy when school is out, he is planning to attend Appalachian State Teachers’ College next year to major in physical education. GRADUATION DANCE As the time grows nearer for that most anticipated event, namely the Graduation Dknce that is to be given on May 18, the excitement and air of mystery also grows. Up at Eden ton High you can hear such questions as: What are you going to Wear? Who’s taking you? Which dress do you think would look best? Os course the dominant question is: Who is giving this dance? No one knows except Mr. George and our un known benefactor. Everyone would like to personally thank this generous person now, but dt looks as if they will have to give in to the inevitable and wait until Friday night, because no one knows who to thank. There were a few requests that they asked us concerning the dance. No corsages are to be worn. It is pre ferred that only couples attend the dance. It is also requested that all the girls remain at the dance until they depart for home. Everyone is eagerly looking forward to the dance. It is sure to be a big success. ing Dormitory at East Carolina Col lege, Greenville, N. C.
