with a deadly weapon with intent to
kill, due to serious injuries inflicted
on Celia Mebane, 27-year-old Negro
woman, who was at the scene at the
time of the shooting. The Mebane
woman was shot in the hip when she
attempted to leave the Holmes house:
Holmes fled after the crime and
• was picked up in Baxley, Ga., from
where he was brought back to face the
charges.

Country Club Meeting
Called Today At 5:30
J. H. Conger, president of the
Edenton Country Clul>, has announced
a meeting of the members to be held
this (Thursday) afternoon at 5:30
o’clock in the Court House. The pur
pose of the meeting is To reorganize
the club and elect officers for the new
year beginning July 1.
Every member of the club is espec
ially urged to be present.

Wallace Goodwin, Jr., son of Mr.
and Mrs. Wallace Goodwin, was among
the seniors who graduated at Louis
burg College Monday. Young Good
win was awarded his B. S. degree in
associate of art.

ents, and his grandmother, Mrs. Henry
Goodwin.
