Breeders such as Clarence Chappell, Jr., are the best reason why the Duroc breed leads all breeds of swine in the number of animals registered, and why farmers think of them as the breed that grows faster on less feed, says B. R. Evans, secretary of the United Duroc Record Associa tion at Peoria. Clarence Chappell, Jr., also receiv ed $67.50 in cash awards from the association for his noted accomplish ment. The 156 litters that qualified in the 1951 Duroc Ton Litter Contest aver aged 2,461 pounds, a new record. There was an average of-10.72 pigs per litter.
