Poultry Chain Again
For 4-H Members
Sponsored By Berkley
Feed Company For
t Second Year
Chowan County 4-H Club members
are again fortunate in having a 4-H
poultry chain. This particular pro
ject is sponsored by the Berkley Feed
Company of Norfolk, 'Va., and is the
sixth year of such a project in Cho
wan County, the second year that the
project has been sponsored by the
Berkley Feed Co.
In this project each of 12 carefully
chosen 4-H Club members will re
ceive 100 day-old Parmenter Redi
Chicks. These chicks are from Har-'
ris’ R. 0. P. Hatchery, Valdese, N.
C., and are from excellent laying
stock. The chicks will be delivered
to the club members on Friday, March
7. Neither the club member nor his
parents will pay for the chicks. In
return for them, the club member
agrees to feed, brood, house and prop
erly Care for them. Next fall 12 of
the better grade pullets from each
flock will be entered in a show and
sale. The pullets will be judged by
poultry specialists from State College
and prizes awarded. The Danish sys
tem of judging will be used; d. e. each
contestant will share in the prize
money. Each pen of pullets will be
placed in one of three groups, blue,
' red, or white and every pen of pullets
in (the same group will share equal
prize money.
Several 4-H Club members, as well
as several adult farmers, are plan
1, ning to use infra-red light bulbs for
brooding their chicks this year.
