RED CROSS DISTRIBUTES GAMMA GLOBULIN VALUED AT SI3MM 1,714,996 cc. Valued at $2,615,000 Now Ready As Serum Against Effects of Paralytic Poliomyelitis Gamma globulin Having a commer cial value of 913,000,000 has been dis> j tributed to State Health Departments by the American Red Ones since 1044, the organization Says as the Office of Defense Mobilisation offi cially began nationlwide distribution of the miracle blood derivative. When the Red Cross Started its dis tribution of gamma globulin 9 years ago, it recalled that blood serum was used only for the prevention of mod eration of measles. 'Allocations of the serum for polio use are still being worked out. Last week the Red Cross turned over to the Office of Defense Mobili zation 1,714,996 cc. of gamma globu lin valued at $2,616,000 ready for use as a serum against the paralytic ef fects of poliomyelitis. The Red Cross is now processing and bottling another 2,000,000 cc. of bulk gamma globulin which it received from the Navy and will obtain additional quantity to be processed by July 1 from current col lections of blood. Red Cross officials emphasized that the success of the effort to provide gamma globulin for prevention of po lio paralysis depends upon the sup port of the American people in giv ing their blood, and also their re- WLOR THEATRE^ EDENTON.
