PAGE TWO U. S. Treasurer WV Speak At Session Os Farm-Home Week Mrs. Ivy Baker Priest On Progrartt Thurs day, June 11 Mbs. Ivy Baker Priest, Treasurer of Who United States, will be guest speaker at the amjnual meeting y>f the North Carolina Federation of Home Demonstration Clubs on June 11 at Farm and Home Week in Raleigh. Mrs. Priest was bom in Kimberly, Utah, and is the daughter of Orange Decatur and Clara Feamley Baker. She afttepded the elementary schools at Kimberley, and was graduated from Bingham High School at Bingham, Utah. She entered Ithe University of Utah, but left college in her fresh man year and as the eldest iof seven children, took over the family respon sibilities when her father, a miner, , became ill 1 . Later Mrs. Priest continued her ed ucation through Extension courses at the University of Utah. She became a telephone operator and was soon advanced to supervisor. She then went into merchandising, working during the day and teaching classes in American history and citizenship at night. Her interest in public service has been reflected in her work as presi dent of the Utah State Women’s Legislative 'Council, as vice-president of the Utah Safety Council and in' the general Federation of Womein’s Clubs and the American Red Cross. She ; took the lead in winning the first i minimum wage for working wometn in , Utah, and participated in the foumdti|ng of the Youth Canter for David Coun ty, Utah (Salt Lake city). Mrs. Priest was nominated by , President Dwight D. Eisenhower on January 28, 1953. Mrs. Priest, the of the United States. C., guest speaker at the May 7th meeting of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Edenton, stressed in her talk that “We say that we will say our prayers instead that we will pray our prayers.” In her address on “The Auxiliary Prayer” Mrs. Gordon elaborated on the phrases from the prayer “to pray fervently, to work diligently and to give generously” and in so doing she said we pray not only for oth ers but ourselves.
