Ralph L Parrish Is Is Named President Virginia Dare Co. Reorganization v Effect ed After Purchase Os Stock y i Announcement Was made last week that Ralph E. Parrish purchased a substantial share of stock in the Vir ginia Dare Transportation Company and that in reorganization of the com • pany he will serve as president and manager. Chester Hawkins, who has had a considerable amount of bus experience will be in charge of the operation. Headquarters of the company will be moved from Manteo to Elizabeth City. Under the new set-up R. B. Lennon is vice president, Guy Lennon, secre tary, and Mrs. Mary C. Hawkins, wife of Chester Hawkins, is treasurer. The Lennons and R. B. Etheridge were the original stockholders in the firm be fore selling a portion of their stock to Parrish. No change in the bus schedule is r planned at present. Class night exercises will be held in the Elementary School auditorium tonight (Thursday) at 8 o’clock, when William Gardner will be master of ceremonies. Esther Warren will speak as the class salutatorian and Margery Thigpen will make the valedictory ad dress. The last will and testament will be presented by Sharon Lupton. The entire class will sing the wel come song, class song and farewell song. Awards will be made by Prin cipal Gerald James. Graduation exercises will be held Friday night at 8 o’clock, with seniors taking the place of a visiting speaker. The theme will be “The. Senior and the School” with the following taking part: “I Look at Yesterday” by Fran *' cis Hicks, “My School and I” by John Dobson, “The Gates Swing Open” by Margery Thigpen. Principal Gerald James will present the class and Su perintendent John Holmes will award diplomas. Other awards will be made by the following: BPW Club award by Mrs. Evelyn Jackson, bus drivers’ award by Mayor L. H. Haskett, DAR literary award by Mrs. W. D. Holmes, Jr., Beta Club award by Gerald James, Rotary cup by W. T. Harry. ' The invocation will be by the Rev. E. B. Edwards and Mary Leggett Browning will be the pianist. Mar shals will be Barbara Dail, Chief, Marjorie Webb, Bobby Whiteman, Hazel Elliott, Christine Brown and Carroll Wood Jones. Piano Pupils Present Recital Tuesday Night A goodly number of friends were present in the music room at the Ele mentary School Tuesday night, when members of Mrs. Wood Privott’s Pi ano Class presented their annual re cital. The youngsters played exceptionally well, much to the gratification of their teacher and those attending. At the close of the recital refreshments were served to all. Chowan River Bridge Restrictions Removed The North Carolina State Highway and Public Works Commission, Ra leigh, has advised that restrictions have been removed from both the east and west navigational openings .through the Chowan River bridge and the 80-foot horizontal clearances pro vided by the permit for the bridge have been restored. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT Lieut, and Mrs. George E. Hassell of La Rochelle, France, announce the birth of a S-pound, 11-ounce daughter, Nancy Lorraine, bom May 16, 1953. Mrs. Hassell is the former Miss 1 Loyce Hardison of Plymouth. SECTION ONE— Methodists Call Off Sunday Night Service The Rev. E. B. Edwards, pastor of the Methodist Church, announced Sun day that Sunday night services will be called off during the remainder of the summer months. This action was approved at a recent meeting of the official board. The Sunday night services will be resumed the first Sunday in Septem ber.
