Driver Df Death Car Dound Over For Trial In September Court Bond For Joe Nathan Manley Set at $2,000 By Judge Wilson In Recorder’s Court last Week Judge Marvin Wilson found probable cause to order Joe' Nathan Manley bound over for the September term of Cho wan Superior Court. His bond was set at $2,000. Manley is facing three charges of manslaughter in connection with a wreck on the Albemarle Sound bridge on Easter Monday when three were killed including his wife, Willie B. Manley and DeWitt and Ethel Har ris of Roper. Manley apparently was driving his Oldsmobile at a high rate of speedj'when he ran into a large truck, causing his car to swerve into the concrete rail of the bridge, then veering across the bridge and crashing into a smaller truck and an automo bile. His car was a complete wreck and was used in a display later in front of the Taylor Theatre to impress motorists to drive carefully. Manley was also injured in the wreck and after a brief stay in the Chowan Hospital was transferred to the Chowan County jail. Marines Play Weeksville Next Wednesday Night Edenton Marines are scheduled to cross bats with the Weeksville Naval Base next Wednesday, June 10, on Hicks Field at 8 o’clock, EST. The Weeksville team is leading the Caro lina Tidewater League and the Ma rines have won most of their games this season, so that a battle royal is anticipated. There is no admission charged, to see game, so that the Marines hope many baseball fans will turn out to see the game. Marines And Spinners Divide Two Games Edenton’s Spinners and the Marines split in games played Saturday and Tuesday nights. Saturday night the Spinners nosed out 3-2 with Billy Herman on the mound. ' On Tuesday night the Marines re versed the tables by defeating the Spinners 9to 5. The Spinners staged a short-lived rally in the ninth when the bases were loaded, but the neces sary punch was lacking. Gene Tay lor hit a home run for the Spinners. Taylor relieved Whitson on the mound in the fifth> Green Grazing Reduces Costs Os Feed Almost all of North Carolina’s spring baby chicks are large enough by this time to be on green grazing crops. This offers the poultryman an opportunity to greatly reduce his pul let feed bill during the growing sea son, according to W. G. Andrews. Andrews, poultry specialist for the N. C. State College Agricultural Ex tension Service, says recently com pleted experiments show that a third more clover than grasses was consum ed by grazing’ pullets. One acre of La dino clover or its equal should pro vide ample grazing for 300 pullets, Andrews says. Using well-bred, production-type birds, a goal of 100 eggs per hen dur ing the first six months of produc tion should be set, Andrews says. This is a practical goal, he adds, as evi denced by the results obtained bn six farms in one North Carolina county which reported for a six-months per iod, beginning September 1, 1952.
