State Law Pointed Out
By Superintendent
W. J. Taylor
W. J. Taylor, superintendent of
Chowan County Schools, calls atten
tion to the fact that parents whose
children enter school for the first
time are required by State law to have
immunization for diphtheria, smallpox .
and whdoping cough, and it is rec
ommended that they have immuniza
tion for typhoid and tetanus.
Children who enter for the first
time 1953-54, must present a certifi
cate of immunization, either from
their family physician or the County
Health Department, for diphtheriq,
smallpox and whooping cough. The
County Health Department is open
every Friday for immunization.
The State Board of Education has
ruled that children may enroll in the
1953-54 term if they are six years of
age on or before October 15. If a
child is bom on October 16, he be
comes six on October 15, according to
a ruling of the Attorney General.

the nobleness of another.
