Page Two Kl Devi Ms Plans flight Cefehatm 4-Day Observance On Flight Anniversary December 17 Reconstruction of the buildings and launching apparatus used by the Wright Brothers in the first flight will be a feature of the celebration of the Golden Anniversary of Powered Flight at Kill Devil Hills, North Car olina, on December 17. Plans for the 50th anniversary cele bration are now being made by a joint committee from four organiza tions concerned with the preservation of the birthplace of modern aviation, all working with the national commit tee for the 50th anniversary celebra tion headed by General James H. Doo little. The plans include construction o1 a landing strip on the actual site of the first flight. The Kill Devil Hills steering com mittee is headed by Miles Clark of Elizabeth City, who was appointed by Carl Goerch, chairman of the North Carolina committee appointed by Gov ernor William B. Umstead to direct the state’s participation in the anni versary celebration. Organizations and their representa tives on the steering committe are: Kill Devil Hills Memorial Society, S. Wade Marr of Elizabeth City, N. C.; Air Force Association, Ralph V. Whitener, Washington, D. C.; Nation al Park Service, Elbert Cox, Region al Director, Richmond, Va.; and North Carolina Commission to Pro mote, Conduct and Participate in the Celebration of the First Airplane Flight, Carl Goerch, chairman, Ra leigh, N. C. Tentative plans call for a 4-day ob servance beginning on the flight anni versary, with a big fly-over of Arm ed Services planes exactly at 10:35 A. M., on December 17. This would be followed by a memorial service at the monument, on Kill Devil Hill, five miles from Kitty Hawk, where the Wrights made their home while con ducting their experiments on the North Carolina coast, and by a ban quet for invited guests at Nags Head beach. The State Committee will sponsor civic and educational observance of the Golden Anniversary throughout the in which modern aviation was bom.
