Page Twelve SOCIETY NEWS E. J. Boyce and Billy Barnett re turned home Friday after spending a week in Canada. Mr. and Mrs. James Dail of South Norfolk spent the week-end visiting Mrs. Dail’s mother, Mrs. John Gar rett. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Garrett and two children of Rocky Mount spent the week-end as guests of Mr. Garrett’s sister, Mrs. J. Edwin Bufflap. Miss Emily Russell, a student at Wake Forest College, is spending some time with her mother, Mrs. Charles F. Russell. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bond and Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Simpson returned home Sunday after a week in the Western North Carolina mountains and South Carolina. Mrs. W. B. Shepard, Jr., and daugh ters, Ann Becky and Katy of Hunt ington, W. Va., are spending sometime with Mr. and Mrs. William B. Shep ard and Miss Louise Coke. Mrs. F. H. McCall and son, Roland, left Edenton Monday for their home at Clearwater, Fla., after visiting Mrs. McCall’s aunts, Mrs. Duffy Sawyer and Miss Nannie Ward. Macedonia Church Revival This Week The Rev. Ralph Knight Preaching For Series Os Meetings Revival services are in progress at the Macedonia Baptist Church this, week. The services began Sunday and will end next Sunday, with the Rev. Ralph W. Knight, pastor of Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church, doing the preaching. Singing will be led by the Rev. Ben ny Crawford, pastor of the church, who invites everybody to attend the services. PROMOTED TO LIEUTENANT Sergeant Paul G. Hassell, son of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Hassell, who was stationed in Mannheim, Germany, recently completed a course in an offi cers’ training school in Kentucky and was promoted to the rank of first lieutenant. Sgt. They were joined by their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Haskett and grand son, Kent Haskett of Portsmouth. Fire Chief R. K. Hall and Assists ant Chief W. J. Yates left Monday for Carolina Beach, where they are[ attending the annual convention of the North Carolina Firemen’s Asso ciation. Miss Maragret Ann Mansfield, who has been a student at Atlantic Chris tian College at Wilson, will arrive home Friday. She and her' mother, Mrs. Raymond Mansfield, will leave Saturday for Hackensack, N. J., to visit their daughter and sister, Mrs. Dennis Willy, who is ill. Mr. and Mrs. J. Warren Magee and two children have returned to their home at Lake Charles, La., after spending a month as guests of Mrs. Magee’s mother, Mrs. Charles F. Rus sell. Tom Harris returned last week from the sanatorium at McCain, N. C., where he has been a patient over two years. He is greatly improved. Col. Raymond Hopper Dies In California Edenton friends will regret to learn that Col. Raymond E. Hopper, 51, died this week at the Santa Ana Marine Corps Air Facility while enroute to the Naval Hospital at Corona. Death was caused by acute coronary throm bosis. Col. Hopper was for a time com manding officer of che Edenton Ma rine Corps Air Station and he and his wife made many friends in Edenton. He is survived by his wife and two sens, Raymond M., 16, and 2nd Lieu tenant RichardFVHopper\ SERVICE CALLED OFF The Rev. Gordon Bennett, rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, announc es that the 8 w’clock service has been canceled for next Sunday morning. The 11 o’clock service will be held as usual. FOUR FIRES IN JULY Fire Chief R. K. Hall reports that there were four fire alarms in July, two in Edenton and two in the rural ] section. Now, therefore; this indenture made and entered into March 6, 1914, between the Board of Councilmen of the Town of Edenton of the first part and the Board of Trustees of Chowan County Farm Life School. Tuttle, Mayor:” The Farm Life School referred to never materialized, and when the pres ent Junior-Senior High School was planned a committee from Town Coun cil and the Edenton School Trustees decided where it should be located.
