On Saturday, all farmers who grow one or } more acres of peanuts will have an opportunity to vote 5 on whether or not they should levy upon themselves an annual assessment of one-cent per hundred pounds of ? peanuts marketed for a three year period. The proceeds l from the assessment would be turned over to the asso ciation by the Commissioner of Agriculture to be used T to promote the interests of Tar Heel peanut growe* s in A all phases of production, marketing, processing, con- I sumption and research. This new organization would function in a similar manner to the successful self-help Tobacco Associates program, which leaf growers au- ? thorized in 1947 under the same law.
