SECTION ONE—] Bernice Wiliams Weds Robert Brooks Ceremony Performed on Sunday by the Rev. C. H. Beale The marriage of Miss Bernice Anne 1 Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest B. Williams of Edenton, and Robert Lee Brooks, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Brooks Os Merry Hill, took place Sunday afternoon, September 27, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Williford, uncle and aunt of the bride. The Rev. Carroll H. Beale of Ty ner, performed the double ring cere mony. The home was artistically decorat ed with white lighted cathedral can dles placed near both sides of the mantle. An arrangement of white chrysanthemums with other white bri dal flowers were placed upon the man tle. This white floral background gave a lovely setting for the marri age vows, in the candle-lighted ser vice. The bride wore a sky-blue colored, fitted, two-piece suit with navy acces sories and wore a corsage of a white orchid. The bride’s mother wore a navy crepe dress with a white floral corsage, similar to the one .worn by Mrs. Brooks, mother of the bride groom, who was also dressed in a navy blue crepe dress. Immediately following the ceremony a reception was held. Mrs. E. B. Williams and Mrs. Williford Turner presided at the table. After the re ception, the bridal couple left for a wedding trip. Upon their return, they will be at home in Edenton. Out-of-town guests who were pres ent for the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Brooks, Misses Eleanor and Sarah Brooks, Mrs. James Brooks, and Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Brooks of Merry Hill; Mrs. Car roll H. Beale of Tyner, was present, with Misses Annette Oliver, Gladys Boyce, Viola Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bond, Mr. and Mrs. James Baker, Murry Williams, and Jerry Baker, all of Edenton. TRUCK FIRE MONDAY Edenton’s firemen were called out about 7 o’clock Monday morning when a truck caught fire on North Broad Street. Little damage was done. Wiggins Dies Following Long Illness Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Wiggins, who died Thursday, Sep tember 24, at her home, were con ducted Saturday afternoon at 8 o’clock from the Edenton Baptist Church, of which she was a life-time member. In the absence of the pastor, the Rev. R. N. Carroll, the Rev. R. D. Steph enson of Franklin, Va., officiated. [Burial was in Beaver Hill Cemetery. She was born August 16, 1883, in Chowan County, the daughter of the late Thomas D. and Betty Gaskins Byrum and the wife of Jasper L. Wiggins. Besides her husband, she is surviv ed by one daughter, Mrs. James L. Hassell; three sisters, Mrs. S. W. Tay lor and Mrs. F. W. Hobbs of Eden ton and Mrs. D. H. Bradshaw of Nor folk, Va.; one brother, T. P. Byrum of Anchorage, Alaska; three grand children, Betsy B. Wiggins of Dur ham, James L. Hassell, Jr., of Hamp ton, Va., and Jasper W. Hassell of Edenton, and two small great grand sons, Ed and Jimmy Hassell. The pallbearers were Eddie C. By rum, Albert G. Byrum, William T. Elliott, Corbin Dozier, Dr. Sidney Kitterman, John W. Wheeler, James L. Hassell, Jr., and Jasper W. Has sell. James Monds Takes Part In State Contest James Monds of the Tyner com munity represented Chowan County in the State 4-H tractor operators’ con test held at the State Fair Grounds at Raleigh Saturday, September 19.
