Page Four Legion Owens Weds Junius F. Britton Ceremony Held In First Christian Church on September 20 On Sunday, September 20 at 3:00 o’clock in the First Christian Church midst a background of palms, fern and beautifully arranged chrysanthe mums, poms poms, and ffladiola, Miss Legion Lunette Owens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Owens, and Juni us Frank Britton, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Britton -were united in marri age. The double ring ceremony was performed with the Rev. E. C. Alex ander, pastor and uncle of the bride, officiating. Prior to the ceremony Miss Carolyn Harris of Gatesville rendered special wedding music, with Mrs. E. E. Gen tile accompanying at the organ. She sang “Because”, “0 Promise Me”, and “The Lord’s Prayer.” The bride entered the church with her father. Her gown was ballerina length, the top of chantilly lace over satin with self-covered buttons, and a full skirt of nylon tulle over satin. Her veil was of nylon tulle and head piece of seeded pearls. She carried a white prayer book topped with a white orchid. The bride had as her maid of honor Miss Esther Warren of Edenton. She wore a ballerina length gown of pink nylon net over taffeta with headband to match. She carried a nosegay of lavendar asters and yellow mums tied with lavendar satin streamers. Her attending bridesmaids were Miss Edna Lassiter, Mrs. Bobby Ed wards of Portsmouth, Va., Mrs. Don ald Campbell, Jr., of Norfolk, Va„ and Miss Virginia Downing, cousins of the bride. They wore dresses of ballerina length of nylon net over taffeta in matching colors of pink and blue with matching headbands and carried light ed candles. The bridegroom had as his best man Bobby Parker of Edenton. Ush ers were Lynn Perry and Fred Ash ley, Jr., of Edenton. Miss Jessie Lee Downing served as mistress of reremonies. Immediately after the ceremony the bridal party was received in the an nex of the church. The bride and bridegroom cut the wedding cake and was served by Miss Virginia Down ing and Mrs. Donald Campbell, Jr. Misses Edna Lassiter and Magdalene Downing presided at the punch bowl. Other refreshments of mints, nuts were also served. Mrs. Bobby Ed wards presided over the bride’s book. Af ter a trip to the Skyline Drive the couple will be at home on South Court Street. Mrs. Britton is at present em ployed by the Town of Edenton and Mr. Britton is connected with Elliott Cleaners. They are both recent grad uates of Edenton High School. Out of town guests at the wedding were: M. L. Owens, Kinston; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kube, Portsmouth, Va.; Mrs. Ruth Warren, Norfolk, Va.; Mrs. Joseph Privott, Norfolk, Va.; and Mrs. D. B. Campbell, Jr., also of Nor folk. On September 19 at the home of the bride’s grandmother, Mrs. C. H. Alex ander and the bridesmaids were hos tesses at a miscellaneous shower for the bride. She received many beauti ful and useful gifts. ' Games were played and goodies of potato chips, mints, nuts, ice cream and cake were I served. News About Clubs In Chowan County By MRS. IMOGENE COCHRANE Home Demonstration Agent Club Women Go On United Nations Tour Mrs. John Hollowell, of Edenton, Route 1, and Mrs. Roland Evans, of Tyner, were among the many Home Demonstration Club women from practically every county in the state who left Monday on a United Na tions Educational Tour. The women will visit many places of interest in Washington and New York and will have the opportunity to observe and study the United Nations Organiza tion while in New York. This is the first state-wide tour for leaders that has been sponsored by the N. C. Agri cultural Extension Service, and it should prove very helpful in strength ening the Home Demonstration Citi zenship program in our county and state. Fall Federation Meeting The Fall Federation "meeting of the Chowan County Home Demonstration Clubs will be held Thursday, October 15, at 2:30 in the! 1 Chowan Community Building. Miss Verna Stanton, As sistant State Home Demonstration Agent from Raleigh, will be guest speaker. At this time the delegates who attended the United Nations Tour will give reports of their trip. Achievement reports from each club will also be given and awards will be made to deserving members and clubs. 4-H Girls Submit Records In State Contest: The 4-H Girls throughout the coun ty have been busily completing their 4-H records. A number of girls- have kept good records over a period of years and this year compiled long-time records in various projects afcd 4-H activities. The following girls were selected as county winners, and have .entered long-time records in the District and State Contest: Mary Sue Elliott, Clothing Achievement; Jackie Bunch, Home Beautification and Leadership, and Shirley Harrell, Farm and Home Electric. Shirley Harrell was County Farm and Home Electric Winner in 1961 and could not be county winner again; therefore, Marjorie Harrell was selected as County Winner. James MacKenzie. Chaplain Swets was born and rear ed in Grand Rapids, Mich. He re ceived his Bachelor of Arts from Cal vin College in Grand Rapids and his Bachelor of Theology from Westmin ster Theological Seminary, in Phila delphia, Pa. He was ordained to the ministry in 1937. He has served churches in Milwaukee, Chicago, St. Anne, Illinois and Grand Rapids. In 1944 he was given a leave of absence from the Fourth Reformed Church in Grand Rapids to become a chaplain in the Navy. After returning to the civ ilian ministry in 1946, he remained in the Naval Reserve.
