Page Ten Mrs. Earnhardt Is State Chairman Os ‘Help Home Project Announcement Is Made By President of State Federation Mrs. W. J. P. Earnhardt of Eden ton has been named chairman of the newly adopted “Help A Home” project of the North Carolina Federation of Women’s Clubs, according to an an nouncement made by Mrs. Grady Kirkman, president of the State or ganization. The “Help A Home” project, re-i cently adopted as a new project of the more than 300 Women’s Clubs of the State in cooperation with the county departments of public welfare, will seek to provide household items for use in homes of families who are in need. Thse items will be from among the “extras” not needed in the homes of club members and others, Mrs. Kirkman stated. They will fill a need which is nom impossible to meet be cause of limited welfare funds. Each Woman’s Club is being asked to appoint a “Help A Home” projwt chairman to work with club members in cooperation with the welfare de : partment. “We are most fortunate that Mrs. Earnhardt has agreed to serve as State chairman of the ‘Help A Home’ project,” Mrs. Kirkman said. “She has had excellent leadership experi- ( ence as president of her local Wo man’s Club and in her present respon- • sibility as president of the 16th dis- ; trict of our State organization. Edenton Colored Boy Drowns At Johnston’s Bridge James Redmon Falls Off While Riding Bicycle Home James Redmon, 12-year-old colored boy, son of George and Carrie Red mon, tenants on the Hayes farm, drowned at Johnson’s bridge in Eden ton late Monday afternoon. The boy, returning to his home af ter school, was riding a bicycle and fell from the, bridge, which is being repaired following the recent storm. I The boy’s father said his son could swim, so it is believed he hit some object in the fall. The body was recovered and rush ed to Chowan Hospital, but all ef forts to revive him failed. VFW Auxiliary Gives Flags To Schools Presentation Is Made In Elementary School Last Wednesday The Women’s Auxiliary of William H. Coffield Post, No. 9280, Veterans of Foreign Wars, presented 17 Amer ican flags 2x3 feet to the Edenton Elementary School Wednesday of last week. This presentation was decided upon after a committee contacted Ernest Swain and Gerald James and found that there were only four flags in the two schools. Old flags were re placed with new ones which will be placed in each room of the high school as soon as another shipment arrives. The flags were presented by Vir ginia Oliver, District 1 president; Nel lie Perry, district treasurer; Ellie Mae Parrish, Auxiliary president and Eth el Simpson, Auxiliary treasurer. Eastern Star Officers Plan An Official Visit Edenton Chapter of the Eastern Star will meet Monday night, October 19, at 8 o’clock in the Court House. At this meeting Mrs. Annie Laurie Mullens of South Mills, deputy grand matron, and Robert Spence, also of South Mills, deputy grand patron, will make an official visit to the local chapter. Mrs. E. B. Edwards, worthy matron of the Edenton Chapter, urges every member to attend the meeting. THREE FIRES IN SEPTEMBER Fire Chief R. K. Hall reported to Town Council Tuesday night that firemen answered three calls during September. Two of the fires were in Edenton and one in the county. I Dr. Murray Kantor WMI Be Speaker For Teachers’Meeting Rotary Party Postponed From October 22 to October 29 Edenton Rotary Club’s annual teachers’ night has been postponed from Thursday night, October 22, to the following Thursday night, October 29. The change in the meeting was announced by Frank Holmes, chair man of the committee making ar rangements for the affair. The change was necessary, said Mr. Holmes, due to securing the principal speaker. The speaker for the occasion will be Dr. Murray Kantor, Jewish rabbi from Suffolk. He is an outstanding speaker and will add materially to the program arranged by Mr. Holmes, William Holmes and Gilliam Wood. The meeting’ will be held at 7 o’clock in the Parish House, with school teachers and officials of the city and county units as guests, of the Rotarians.
