Page Four Tax Benefits For Storagejacilities Income Tax Deductions Provided By Public Law 287 Special income tax deductions have been provided by Congress for grain producers and warehousemen who complete or acquire additional grain storage facilities between January 1, 1963, and December 31, 1956, Assist ant County Agent Robert Marsh re minds farmers of Chowan County. Public Law 287, recently signed by President Eisenhower, provides, in place of the ordinary depreciation al lowances, for income tax deductions based on amortization over a 5-year period of the cost of building new grain storage facilities or of convert ing or enlarging existing space for grain storage. The deductions apply to comcribs, grain bins, grain eleva tors, or any similar structure suit able primarily for grain storage and intended for that use. To take advantage of the benefits provided under Public Law 287, Mr. Marsh says that a grain producer wh# i qualifies under the act for such de ductions needs only to state his in tention in his income tax return for the year in which the facility was ac quired or completed. Permission be fore adding the facility is not need-, ed to obtain the tax deduction. The law states that deductions should be computed on a monthly bas is, dividing the adjusted cost of the improvement by the number of months left in the 60-month amortiza tion period to obtain the deduction al lowable for one month. No regula tions or instructions on the grain storage provision are available at this time. Funeral Held For G.
