Edenton Aces Drop I Game To HiaMh City Friday 26 To 7 j Dickie Darling: Principal • Show on Hicks Field , Friday Night * Elizabeth City’s Yellow Jackets, 1 sparked by Dickie Darling, were too ' much for Coach Ben Perry’s Edenton 1 Aces Friday night on Hicks Field, so j that the Aces lost their third game of ' the season by a score of 26-7. Darl ing was a hard man for the Aces to stop. He scored three of the visitors’ four touchdowns, two on 66 and 70 yards jaunts on punt returns. He was the big factor in the first touchdown 1 also in the first quarter when the ' Jackets recovered ah Edenton fumble ' on the Aces’ 46-yard line. Darling chalked up two first downs, which netted 28 yards and then plowed through the Edenton line from the five-yard line to score. In his other two touchdown runs, Darling ripped ' through the entire Edenton team af ter gathering in punts and kicked two of the extra points. Edenton’s lone scofre came in the second quarter. Elizabeth City kicked after scoring the second touchdown and in four successive trys Stilley made a first down at midfield. The Aces were forced to kick and the ; Jackets were penalized, giving the Aces the ball on the Jacket 35. Bass picked up seven and Stilley bulled his way to the 21 for a first down. Bass and Stilley alternated to chalk up a first down on the five and af ter Bass gained one yard, Stilley crashed over for the touchdown. Rog erson’s kick was good for the extra point. For the remainder of the quarter the ball see-sawed back and forth. The Jackets came back strong for the second half and scored a touch- . down in each erf the third and fourth quarters. The Aces, apparently weakening as the game wore on, were not able to make any material threat to overcome the Yellow Jackets’ lead. For the Aces,Bill Bass once again displayed his last season form, while Whitson and Stilley performed well in carrying the ball. On defense Ray Rogerson, Bill Hardison and Cecil Miller looked best. In the game the Yellow Jackets . 'v’jgained 116 yards on the ground and chalked up eight first downs. They completed three passes for 31 yards. The Aces gained 84 yards on the ground and completed two of nine passing attempts for 18 yards. They chalked up eight first downs.
