SECTION ONE- Senior Hi-Light By EDNA BOSWELL Seems as if fairs are utmost in the minds of the Seniors lately. Last week the class had a very successful trip to the State Fair in Raleigh, and this week we have our own Chowan County Fair which began October 26. The administration was quite kind in that it gave us a half-day holiday on Wednesday to attend the County Fair. The Annual pictures were distribut ed to the Seniors last week. Seeing the cap and gown pictures made us realize that our time in Edenton Jun ior-Senior High School is short. Betty Jean Moore and Bobby White man are the two Seniors to be intro duced to you this week. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Moore, Betty Jean was bom on June 24, 1936 in Williamston and moved to Edenton at the age of six. She is an active member of the Tri-Hi-Y Club and the Glee Club. Sports, danc ing and meeting people are her chief interests. After graduation, Betty will study business administration. Bobby, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Whiteman was bom in Edenton on March 6, 1936. He is an outstanding football player, is president of the I qO^notes PRESTON’S | I COME IN AND SAVE ON i PANTIES, 2 pairs for .SI.OO j | SCARFS, now only sl.oo| | HATS, priced 50c and sl.oo| I SHIRTS, values to $lB5 sl.oo| | PLAYTEX GIRDLES, were $3.98 now SI.OO i Reductions On Many Items During’ Dollar Days At | PRESTON’S | EDENTON b a 5 m I I > Ik Wm It’s Now on Display in Our Store *?* **ct TftoHif 'Hctv tytaitt-Saving o ?catcvtc& Here’s a new combine that has the "know-how” to save more grain or seed from every combine able crop. But proper conditions of mois ; ture and temperature must be main i tained. C. W. Overman, Chowan County farm agent for the State College Ag • ricultural Extension Service, says U. ■ S. Department of Agriculture scien tists have found that two upland va , rieties of cottonseed, Carolina Dell i and Deltapine A, germinated well af i ter being stored 16 years at 33 de i grees with seven, nine, and 11 per .ceift moisture. The same two varie ties showed some deterioration when ' stored at 13 per cent moisture; all • seed were dead after 16 years at 14 per cent moisture. Mr. Overman said seed stored at 70 degrees with seven per cent moisture : were 73 per cent capable of germina i tion after 15 years. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29, 1968. 70 degrees with more than seven per £ cent moisture were dead at the end of the 16 year period. Seeds stored at an uncontrolled air temperature did not survive as well as those stored at a constant tempera ture of 70 degrees. Only those with a moisture content below seven per cent survived beyond three years, and all lots were dead after 13% years. 1 Seeds showed most rapid deteriora tion, according to Mr. Overman at 90 ' degrees. Those containing 14 per cent moisture were all dead in form months, and those at all levels of ' moisture were dead or badly deterior ated in three years. Two Edenton Ladies Concerned About TB Mrs. J. A. Moore, chairman of the > tehabilitation Committee in Chowan County, along with Mrs. Sidney Mc- Mullan, last week visited the District Tuberculosis Association office in Elizabeth City to observe and talk i over some of the ways and means of helping TB patients in and out of the anatorium in Chowan County, and: how the county must depend on volun-j i teers to help with the program.
