The State Department of Motor Ve
hicles relieved the legal driving privi
leges of 2,713 Tar Heel motorists in
October according to the department’s
monthly summary of violations re
quiring the surrender of licenses.
Almost half of the revocations came
from drunken driving convictions list
ed at 1,289.
Other violations and subsequent rev
ocations were as follows:
Driving after license revoked, 90;
two offenses of reckless driving, 51;
speeding over 76 mph, 252; two of
fenses of speeding over 55 mph, 112;
transporting liquor, 57; larceny of au
tomobile, 20,
For speeding over 70 mph in a pas
senger car 287 motorists lost their
license for 30 days. And 306 drivers
had their license suspended for failing
to abide with provisions of the fi
nancial responsibility law.
The October summary brought the
year’s total to 11,306 revocations and
7.511 suspensions.

duced by J. A. Webb, duly seconded
by J. R. Peele, and unanimously adopt
ed:
WHEREAS, we, the members of the
Board of County Commissioners of
Chowan County, in session this Mon
day, November 2, 1953, desire by
these resolves to pay tribute to. and
express our appreciation of the faith
ful services of our deceased member,
Mr. E. N. Elliott, whose passing on
Thursday morning, October 8, 1953,
came as a profound shock to his many |
friends in this county and section of j
the State; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Elliott served as a |
member of this Board continuously
since taking office of August 17, 1940,1
! during which time his every action I
was motivated by the highest prin- i
cipals, and always with the best in
terests of the county as a whole up
permost in his mind; and,
WHEREAS, by his devotion to deep
Christian principles, his faithfulness,
to his every trust, Mr. Elliott leaves,
behind an example which we might:
well emulate. Therefore, be it |
RESOLVED, that these resolutions
be spread upon the permanent minutes
of this Board on a page dedicated to
