More than $11,689,000 in special

nearly 600 other applications are be

The special livestock loan program '

producers of cattle, sheep and goats
to maintain their herds. The produc

good past records of livestock pro
duction but who are temporarily un
able to get adequate credit from com
mercial banks, cooperative lending
agencies, or other responsible sources
' to enable them to go ahead with nor
mal livestock operations. They must
have reasonable prospects of success
with the help of a loan. Commercial
feed lot operators are not included.
| Applications can be made at the,
Farmers Home Administration office
serving Chowan County located over
the bus station in Hertford. Commit
tees authorized by Secretary of Agri
culture Benson approve the loans.
Applications for more than $60,000
must have final approval by the Sec

A borrower may use his loan funds
for usual expenses of carrying on a

There’s nothing like plenty of good
food to get men out to a meeting. A1
least it really did the trick last Fri
day night at the Annual Home Dem
onstration Club Husbands’ Supper
which was held-at the Chowan Com
munity Building. About 60 Home
Demonstration Club members and
their husbands enjoyed a delicious tur
key supper with all the trimmings
which was served by the Ward Home
Demonstration Club. The Invocation
was given by the Rev. B. L. Raines,
pastor, Rocky Hock Baptist Church.
The Rev. L. C. Chandler, pastor of the
Center Hill Baptist Church, was guest
speaker and gave a most inspiring
talk following the dinner. Special
music was furnished b> Mrs. W. H.
Saunders, Mrs. Henry Bunch, Mrs
Paul Ober, Mrs. Roland Evans and
C. W. Overman, with a little assist
ance from the entire group. Mrs. I. E.

IN MEMORIAM
In loving memory of our dear son,
Franklin Perry, who passed away on
November 24, 1952:
One year ago you left us son,
And each day we miss you more,
But we know you are safe with Jesus,
Beyond the other shore.
We get so lonesome for you some
times,
It seems our hearts will break,
Then we remember that “God Is
Love,”
And He never makes a mistake.
You were given to us by God,
As an answer to our prayer,
To Him we are thankful for that 18
years,
Our lives together to share.
If we could only see your face,
And smooth your pretty black hair,
We’d be happy in our home again,
There’d be no empty chair.
We often sit and think of you,
When We are all alone,
For we know that memory is the only
thing,
That grief can call its own!
It was so hard to give you up son,
It seems we can hear your voice.
But then we know your soul’s with
God,
It was He who made the choice.
It all seems like a nightmare to us,
A thing we will have to live
through,
The memories so sweet are many,
Although the years may be few.
They say time helps you to forget,
And will heal all your sorrow.
But time has only proven how much
we miss you, son,
And the depth of our sorrow.
Your Bible is still by your bedside,
With your Sunday School Book
tucked in,
At your last daily reading.
Before you met your Lord, “Your
Very Best Friend.”
We are waiting, just waiting, dear
son,
To meet you will be a happy day,
When Jesus calls us to go with Him,
And guides us to your “Stay.”
To all Mothers and Dads,
Love, cherish and lead your chil
dren in the right way
For God giveth them to us,
And it is He who taketh away.
God hath not promised skies always
blue,
Flower-strewn pathways all our
lives through,
God hath not promised sun without
rain,
Joy without sorrow, peace without
pain.
But God hath promised strength for
the day,
Rest for the labor, light for the
way,
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.
By His Mother and Father,
, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Perry.
Mistress of Ceremonies. Many thanks
to all of those taking part on the
[program and to the Ward Club for
the delicious supper. \
We emphasize material needs—
trying to give our families more
things to make them happy and se
cure. A happy home climate wherjr
there is a feeling that family members
are loved, important, appreciated can
be secured only by practicing the art
of living at one’s best day by day.
Here are three “vitamins" that will
do much to insure the happiness of
each one of us: Acceptance, Affec
tion, Apprecation.
Acceptance—Each family member
feels himself or herself to be impor
tant as a person. No two people are
alike. Each ] arson wants to be ac
cepted on his own merits.
Affection—Like sunlight and fresh
air, love is essential, if we are to
grow into emotionally healthy indi
viduals.
Appreciation The magic that
makes life worthwhile. Each of us
needs to feel that his efforts as well
as his achievements are appreciate: -
Each of us needs to practice the art
of praising and appreciating others.
This would give us less Hme fo* com-
