SECTION ONE-l fHinmnn Pium4v Um raowan towny Has Authority To Scrap i P. Fee System Attorney General Harry McMullan Points Out 1949JLP. Act According to Attorney General Har ry McMnllan, there *re 27 counties in North Carolina which could take steps to eliminate the fee system of justices of the peace. This information was given in a letter to Reed Sarratt of the Winston-Salem Journal and Sen tinel. Mr. McMullan said he hopes news papers can arouse public sentiment to the point where one or more of the counties will give the 1949 Justice of the Peace Act a trial. ' The act says that board county commissioners in the 27 counties may, by resolution, put magistrates on a salary instead of a fee l>asis. The jus tices of the peace would be appointed j for two-year terms by resident judges of the Superior Court, who would have the authority to remove them for cause. The counties having authority to undertake such a program, wrote Mc- Mullan are: Anson, Bladen, Bun combe, Burke, Camden, Chowan, Co lumbus, Craven, Currituck, Dare, Edgecombe, Gaston, Graham, Hert ford, Iredell, Lenoir, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Onslow, Orange, Pasquo tank, Pender, Perquimans, Rowan, Stanly, Stokes and Vance Plans Shaping Up For Christmas Party (Continued from Page One) The parade will move along Broad Street led by police escort, followed bv town and BPW officials and the Edenton Junior-Senior High School Band. Two prizes will he given for the best floats. First prize of SIS.(KT will be given for the best float and SIO.OO for the second best float. All county and city schools, both | white and colored, will be closed an I hour before the parade so that the I children may see and take part in the parade. Tickets will be distributed throughout the schools, from the first through the fourth grades. Pre-school children will receive tickets at the Court House Green where the party will be held. The Green will be roped off into two lanes, one for the white children and one for the colored children. Bags of Christmas sweets will be distribut ed by members of the Edenton Nation al Guard to the white children, and members of the Colored Woman’s Club will handle distribution to the colored children. Edenton police will direct traffic during the afternoon.
