IXMorris Prin cipal Speaker at An nual Rally Simultaneous with thousands of similar meetings throughout the Southern Baptist Convention, the Training Union forces of the Chowan Baptist Association will assemble at the Corinth Baptist Church, near Elisabeth City, and will observe “M” Night at 7:80 Monday night, Decern* ber 7. The inspirational address will be brought by the Rev. W. D. Morris, | pastor of the Scotland Neck Baptist Church. The Rev. Mr. Morris is well known in this section, having former ly served as pastor of the Corinth Church and having been a strong sup porter of the training program in the churches. His subject is “Keeping the Faith.” The order of the program of this year-end meeting will include plans and goals for 1954, a short clinic, special music, and a film strip entitled “Keeping the Faith”, This is one of the most jenthusiastic meetings of the year for training union euthusiasts and local unions are- preparing to send large delegations to share the information, inspiration and enthusi asm of the meeting. Boy Scout Drive Is Near ing Completion Chairman Urges Contri butions to Be Sent In At Once According to Roland T. Orr, Boy Scout finance chairman for the Albe marle District, the district goal of $7,- 000 is in sight. Finance Secretary Sanford Aydlett had in hand $6,300 last week and there were still other pledges expected which should push the drive over the top. The amounts contributed by the various counties and communities are as follows: Camden County, Chair man H. Clay Ferebee, $188; Currituck County, Chairman Samuel Walker, $200; Dare County, Chairman Julian Oneto, $643.31; Pasquotank County, Chairman Charles Vann, $35; Eliza beth City, Chairman Holland Webster, $3,800; Chowan County, Chairman Charles Qyerman, SSO; Eden ton, Chairman Gerald James, $940; Gates County, Chairman C. V. Cross, Jr., $130; Perquimans County, Archie Lane, S4B; and Hertford, Chairman John ißggers, $300.- Mr. Orr stated that he honed cam paigners would turn in all contribu tions at once so that the campaign may be officially closed. Bunch Candidates The «w>ntl Soil Conservation Su pervisors election will be held during the week of December 7 to 12, 1953. The election in Chowan County will be held for the purpose of selecting a member of the Chowan Committee of Soil Conservation Supervisors. L. C. Bunch, chairman of the Cho wan Committee, announces that bal lot boxes will remain at the various polling places during the entire week. Every legally qualified voter is ur ged to visit the polling place in his community and cast his ballot for the candidate of his choice. Woodrow Lowe, Augustus Spruill, and L. C. Bunch have been nominat ed'as candidates in the election. The candidate receiving the highest num ber of votes will serve on the Chowan Committee for a period of three years. The successful candidate will fill the vacancy caused by the expiration of L. C. Bunch’s term of office on De cember 31, 1953. The Chowan Committee has ar ranged for ballot boxes to be placed in the following places in the county: Yeopim—Levy Williams store; Eden ton—Byrum Hardware Store; Cowpen Neck—-Grover Cale’s Store; Rocky Hock—Earl Smith’s and . Henry Bunch’s Stores; Small’s Cross Roads —Melvin Evans’ Store; Center Hill— J. I. Boyce’s and Titus Chappell’s Stores; Valhalla—Earl Ashley’s Store; Ryland—Arthur Byrum’s Store; and Gliden—Lloyd Briggs’ Store. According to the Chowan Commit tee, voters may vote for only one can didate in this election. The Soil Conservation Supervisors' election is an annual affair.
