SECTION ONE- Edenton Christmas Party Attracts Big Crowd On Friday Threatening Skies Fail To Reduce Number On Hand Despite threatening skies and an oc- | casional drizzle, a large number of children from Edenton and Chowan County gathered in Edenton Friday afternoon to meet Santa Claus and take part in the annual Christmas party sponsored by the Edenton Busi ness and Professional Woman’s Club. A parade, which featured the party formed at Hicks Field and marched down Broad Street to Water, where it turned to the Court House Green. The parade was headed by a police escort and the Edenton High School Band with present majorettes and a large group of future baton twirlers also in the line of march. A number of floats helped make up the parade with the Chowan Parent- Teacher Association winning first prize. The Edenton Parent-Teacher Association and Mrs. John F. White’s kindergarten class tied for second prize. On the Court House Green bags were distributed among all white and colored children. The affair, as in previous years, was a big success, so that kiddies as well as aduits thoroughly enjoyed the party. Members of the BPW Club are very appreciative for the support and cooperation received from practically everyone who was asked. Gibson Brickie Named Civil Defense Chairman Chowan County Commissioners on Monday appointed Gibson Brickie as chairman for civilian defense in Cho wan County. Mr. Brickie succeeds Ralph E. Parrish, who recently re signed. It is surprising how few people have sense enough to listen to an au thority on his subject j R ANCh"oFFIq3 j | I ; USE OUR Gi f ts f° r Children?
