Sift into a mixing bowl the flour,
baking powder, salt and sugar. Fold
in nuts. Mix beaten egg, banana,
milk and shortening. Add all at once
to flour mixture. Mix quickly but
thoroughly. Put into greased loaf pan
holding about 6 cups. Bake 70 min
utes on center rack of moderately
slow oven (350), or until bread pulls
from sides of pan. Let stand in pan
5 minutes before turning out. Cool
on win rack before slicing. Mak»
