Workshops Planned To Attract Industry C & D Engineers Will Assist Local Groups With Planning | Industrial development workshops " designed to help local communities and groups in their industry-seeking efforts will be held in every county of the State this year, according to Director Ben E. Douglas of the De partment of Conservation and Devel opment. Douglas said development engineers from tiie C&D Department’s Commerce and Industry Division will attend each of the workshops to help local groups with their planning for new indus tries. Those interested in forming work shop groups in each county are urged to write the Director, Department of Conservation and Development, Ra leigh, N. C., and necessary informa tion and assistance wiirbe furnished Douglas said. Director Douglas said the Depart ment of Conservation and Develop ment is planning to give local com munities more assistance in the future ir. their industry-seeking efforts thanj it has been able to give in the past. | “We want these development work shops to be real cooperative efforts on the part of local communities and the Department of Conservation and Development in the efforts being made to bring more industrial pay rolls into North Carolina and thus help raise the per capita income of North Carolinians.” Douglas said. In the stepped-up efforts to bring, more industries into the State, Doug-1 las said the Department of Conserva tion and Development has added new personnel to its commerce and indus try division. Weekly Devote] Column By James Mackenzie - “The most serious situation ever, faced by churches of America,” is ’ what Dr. Lee Roberson of Chattanoo- j ga, Tennessee, calls the present ten- 1 dency to substitute outward profes sion of religion for genuine, inward possession of Christ. He describes our condition with the words of Isaiah, j “ . . . this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me” (Isaiah 29:13). According to a recent Survey, more than 90 per cent of the people of our nation believe in the existence of God.' It is a difficult thing to find an atheist today. Some 00 years ago Robert G. I ngersoll could attract 1 arge crowds from coast to coast with his infidel harangues; hut all that is a thing of Hv> paste Ingersoll would stand on the platform, hold his watch in his hand, and say, “If there is a God, I give Him one minute to strike Uiould gou frade a feting fbra Dollar? 0 You can if you use Natural Chilean Nitrate of Soda for your top-dressing and side-dressing needs. It costs a little more because it’s worth more. But the difference in cost usually can be measured in pennies per acre, while the differ ence in value often amounts to dollars per acre. Chilean “Bulldog” Soda gives you generous extra value. The nitrogen is 100 per cent nitrate. It’s 100 per cent available (quick-acting); 100 per cent dependable. The minor elements make crops stronger, healthier. The sodium—26 pounds in every 100-pound sack—is a key to maximum returns on your entire fertilizer investment. It offsets the bad effects of acid forming fertilizers...increases the efficiency of mixed ferti lizers containing them. It releases “locked-up” potash in the 50i1... increases the availability and efficiency of soil phos phate... reduces potash, calcium and magnesium losses by leaching...develops larger, deeper root systems. Sodium builds up the productivity of your land— more each year. It’s an essential element for some crops...bene ficial to most and necessary . ence in cost may mean # NITRAT£OfgQo *M*k # an dollars-per-acre difference §| ' dWA ¥•■ J*f* in value to you. Chilean i *** “Bulldog” Soda is the best I kUl* fertilizer your money can CHILEAN f me dead!” One day he was heckled by a Scotsman. It got under the | 'atheist’s skin. Finally he said to the l Scot, “One more sound out of you, you r little pipsqueak, and I’ll take you up i and eat you in one bite.” The Scots man stood up and replied, “Yes, and if you do, you’ll have more brains in your stomach than you have in your head.” ' But, to return to the subject, though we Americans are more “re ligious” than ever before, we have sub stituted formal religion as such for the Person and Work of Christ. By that I mean that rites and rituals, ceremonies and observances, even church membership and the sacra ments, have for all too many taken the place of a vital, personal, life changing day-by-day relationship with the Lord Jesus. If you disagree with i this, just look about you, and see how many church-members (I cannot call them “Christians”) in Edenton patron ize the liquor store, and unblushingly take the name of God in vain. Call this “religion” if you must, but let it be here recorded that this is not by any means the religion of Christ. For there is a devil—and he is no fool. Some of the people who do his work for him are fools, but the devil is not. He knows that if he can per suade men and women to believe in a bloodless religion, a religion without the cross, and blood, and righteous ness of Christ, a religion that soft | medals both the holiness of God and | the sinfulness of men, a religion that winks at sin and worldliness, he will have gained his greatest victory. Therefore, all sentimental humanitar iapism, all weak-kneed Churchianity, all ritualism that de-emphasizes man’s utter sinfulness and desperate need of a Saviour, is not of God, but of Sa tan. F.'i'ow Christians, lot us take our j on the Word of God, trusting • oplv in the Christ who is our Sub i stitute, our Saviour, and Redeemer, our Lord and Advocate. The only ex cuse the church has for existing is to preach Him to a lost world, by life, by precept, and Py word. Some Hav Is Desirable When Cows Get Silage A question frequently asked by North Carolina dairvmen is. “If I feed plnty of good quality silage, do my cows still need hay or some dry , roughage?” 1 George Hyatt, in charge of dairy ex ! tension work, N. C. State College, says I that on the basis of experiments so ;far, it appears that at least a small amount of hay is desirable—but not absolutely necessary for top milk pro . i A Three Days' Cough Is Your Danger Signal Creomulsion relieves promptly because it goes into the bronchial system to help loosen and expel germ laden phlegm and aid nature to soothe and heal raw, tender, inflamed bronchial membranes, guaranteed to please you or money refunded. C., THURSDAY, JANUARY 14, 1964. duction. , | “When cows are fed top quality ! corn silage during the winter months and allowed to graze good pasture during the summer, they apparently remain healthy,” according to Hyatt. One experiment station has raised cows to several years of age without cured hay—just pasture and corn sil age. Another experiment has demon strated that good production can be maintained by feeding grass silage as the only roughage. Only a few direct comparisons of milk production from cows fed silage with and without roughage have been made, says Hyatt, but it seems now that further tests will show that ad ditional roughage is not essential. If a dairyman has adequate quality silage, but limited hay, he should | make his hay last longer by feeding | small amounts (two to five pounds per day), ahu g with liberal amounts of silage.
