crops.
The lime and fertilizer applied to
the soil improved conditions which in
turn resulted in an increase in the
production of crops and improvements
in pasture and forage. Farmers of
Chowan County have found that
using winter cover crops as a regular
practice in their farming system is a
sure step to continued production.
The intent of the 1953 AC Program
was to obtain the greatest possible
conservation with available funds, and
to assist farmers in increasing con
servation activities on their farms.

It’s All Done With Mirrors J
j A brass band once visited a small
village and the people were delighted
with it, but they couldn’t make out
the trombone, so they sent old Cyrus
to investigate.
Old Cyrus watched the performance
|of the trombone player for some
1 time. Then, he said, with a sneer,
I “Take no notice of him, fellers.
There’s a trick to it; he don’t swallow
[the dum thing.”
