SECTION ONE—: Aces Drop Opener To: Perquimans Indians,: Wildness of Pitchers and i Errors Figure In 10-4 Defeat Edenton’s Aces lost their first game of the 1954 baseball season on Hicks i Fields Friday afternoon when they were defeated by the Hertford In dians by a score of 10 to 4. The visitors took advantage of three errors, wild pitching to tally five runs • in the first three innings and came back in the sixth inning to score four j more runs. The Aces staged a rally | in the fifth to score four runs on five i bunched hits, but were unable to over- j come the Indians’ lead. Four pitchers were used by the | Aces, Griffin, Stilley, Rogerson and, Emminizer, who gave up 10 hits. The! Aces collected eight hits off Phillips j and Matthews, who were given splen- 1 did support in the field. The Aces were charged with seven errors. Al Chappell and D. A. Carver led at bat for the visitors, while Stanton Harrell led for the Aces with two hits.
