Jury Declare® Mrs. Lillie Ward Guilty (Continued From Page One) there need not be cause for concern about any irregularities in the coun ty’s fiscal affairs. The Grand Jury was also instructed tdT ik over the last two reports to any recommendations had been ignored. In this respect, Judge Carr said recommendations are only per suasive in character and that when recommendations are made having to do with the expenditure of a substan tial amount of public funds, the Coun ty Commissioners should be consulted. In closing his remarks, Judge Carr referred to the slaughter on public highways, saying that despite the ef forts to curtail accidents, wholesale violation of the traffic laws continues. Upon reviewing the calendar Judge Carr was not favorably impressed with the continuation of so many cases, es pecially with a term of court being held at such long intervals. The first case disposed of was John J Wayland Cullipher, charged with op-I erating an automobile while under the j influence of intoxicating liquor. It i was the defendant’s second offense and i he was sentenced to six months, sus- i pended upon condition that he pay a ! fine of S2OO and costs of court and j showing good behavior for a period of two years. He was also required to j surrender his driver’s license to the j Clerk of Court. , Next to be disposed of was Kelly Springfield White and Edward Earl Hall, Negroes, the latter only 14 years old. Both plead guilty to forgery. It was brought out that the Hall boy wrote and forged five checks amount ing to $197.25.
