SECTION ONE—I Weldon A. HolloweH Campaign Manager For WJterr Scott Plans to Carry on Active Program to Angle For Votes Weldon A. Hollowell on Monday was appointed campaign manager in Chowan County for former Governor W. Kerr Scott, who is a candidate for I the United States Senate, now held j by Senator Alton Lennon. Mr. Hoi- i lowell accepted the position and will handle the local campaign from now •n until the election on May 29. Mr. Hollowell is at present prosecu tor for Chowan Recorder’s Court. He is a veteran of World War II and is a j teacher of a Sunday School class at; Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church. CHOWAN HIGH SCHOOL PTA WILL MEET TUESDAY NIGHT The Parent-Teacher Association of Chowan High School will meet in the school auditorium Tuesday night, April 13, at 7:30 o’clock. Mrs. William Swets, wife of the Chaplain at the local Marine Air Base, ; will he guest speaker, She will speak on “Building A Beautiful Home,” An elementary Chorus, under the direction of Miss Cecilia Willoughby, will sing several selections. Edenton Band Will Play In Potato Festival 1 Twelve high school bands have ac cepted invitations to play in the Eliza beth City Potato Festival parade on May 15. one of which is the Edenton High School Band under the direction jof Ernest Gentile. A majorette con- I test and clinic will also be held in j connection with the festival. The parade will be one of the prin cipal features of the celebration. CAREY HOLLOWELL APPOINTED HOSPITAL BOARD DIRECTORS Carey J. Hollowell, County Com missioner from the Third Township, l on Monday was appointed a member of the board of directors of Chowan Hospital. Mr. Hollowell will repre ! sent the Commissioners on the hoard and succeeds the late E. N. Elliott. TAX COLLECTIONS Sheriff J. A. Bunch reported to the County Commissioners Monday that during March collections for 1953 tax es amounted to $5,353.67. This amount brought total 1953 taxes collected to date to $145,561.13.
