SECTION ONE—: Advance Club Plans i Hold Adult Peanut i Growing Contest Committee Appointed to ; Raise Funds For Va rious Prizes Increased peanut yields is to be one of the main objectives of the Advance Agricultural Club during 1954. The Advance Agricultural Club met at the Community Building on Friday night, April 16, with 10 members present. Chairman Bill Forehand was master of ceremonies. With the County Agent, the group discussed the latest improved peanut production practices. Several growers are trying the new N. C. 2 variety. The group voted to conduct an adult peanut growing contest in the com munity this year. The basis to be the best one acre of peanuts, based on yield and quality. A committee was appointed to raise funds for prizes. The acre of peanuts is to be selected by the grower by July 15th, measur ed and staked. County Agent C. W. Overman show ed a moving picture which portrayed good practices in harvesting, grading, packaging, and marketing vegetables. The refreshment committee served soft drinks and candy while a brief fellowship period was thoroughly en joyed. Wake Forest And ECC Play Monday Night (Continued From Page One) contest. Taylor, is a member of the pitching staff of East Carolina and there is an excellent possibility that he will see action on the mound for the Pirates here against Wake Forest. She also paid high tribute to the State patrolmen and bus driv ers for the magnificent job they have done. She pointed out that around 7,000 busses run daily in North Caro lina. “The boys and girls who drive these school busses take a training course and have to pass a State exam ination. School laws are drilled to them,” she said. Mrs. Futrell announced that a traf fic training school for teenagers is being opened in Hertford and she ■ hopes one may be opened in Eden ton, where the boys and girls will be shown their mistakes and to make them better citizens. Volunteers will aid in the training school.
