Jesse Harrell Asks For
Generous Contribu-
lions For Project
Due to Inclement weather, the Eden
ton High School Band was unable to
parade ft's planned for the “kick-off”
drive to raise funds for the erection
of the swimming pool in Edenton
Tuesday. However, canvassers for the
campaign got off to a good start as
soon as the rain slowed up.
Jesse Harrell, president of Hicks
Memorial Swimming Pool, Inc., stated,
that a thermometer has been placed on'
the comer of The. Bank of Edenton,
so that all may see how the fund cam
paign is progressing. He issued an
urgent appeal to the citizens of Eden
ton and the county to, give generously
so that the goal of $25,000, may be
reached, and construction of the pool
can get immediately. A
large sign has been posted between
the Edenton Armory and Park Ave
nue, which designates the site where |
the pool will be built.
Harrell announced that at a meet
ing of the Varsity Club Monday night
he was presented a check for $250
from the organization as a contribu
tion toward the pool. He also an
nounced that the up and coming “Lit
the Helper’s Club,” composed of pupils
of the first grade, have donated $2.00
toward the project.
“I am sure every one wants to have
a part in the construction of this
worthwhile: project,” Harrell said, "so
let’s get busy and push that ther
mometer way over Hie top and let the
kids enjoy. : the pool this summer. If
any persons are -missed during the
campaign thitf Week, don’t let this hold
up your ihuth needed contributions,
just send you*-' check to Mrs. Cecil
Fry, treasurer,'or to me, payable to l
Hicks Memorial Swimming Pool.”

| Six Teams Entered
In Albemarle League
(Continued From Page One)
, Another lengthy discussion had to
do with Edenton’s entry in the league.
Palmer Tynch had entered his Rocky
Hock team on the assumption that it
would be Edenton’s entry. However,
it was decided that Dr. J. A. Powell
: had been elected president of the
j Edenton Colonials with Gashouse
j Parker chosen as manager. This or
ganization, therefore, was authorized
to field a team representing Edenton
and Palmer Tynch and his Rocky
