Wilbur Privott New President Chowan PI A Association Meeting of Asso ciation Will Be Held May 11th The largest attendance of the Cho wan High School Parent-Teacher As sociation for the 1953-64 term was had on Tuesday night, April 13. A most delightful program was planned and enjoyed by all who attended. The primary grades, under the di rection of Miss Cecelia Willoughby, sang several selections that had been learned in the classroom during music period. This was followed by a talk on pub lie Speaking by John C. Carson. Mr. Carson has inspired many of the high school students to become interested in different phases of public speak ing. As a sample of his work, he pre sented Steve Burch, who gave his speech on World Peace. The highlight of the evening was an inspirational message by Mrs. Wil liam Swets on “Building a Beautiful Home.” Mrs. Swets compared the building of a home to that of other structure in which the foundation must be sound, strong and true. “For a home to be beautiful the first essen tial is for its foundation to be built on love,” said Mrs. Swets. The new officers for the 1964-56 term were presented by the nominat ing committee. They were as follows: President, Wilier Privott; vice president, Mrs. Jane Joyner; secretary, Mrs. W. D Elliott; treasurer, Emmett Jones. W. J. Taylor was present and com mented favorably on the good work done by the association during the en tire school term. The May meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 11th at 7:30 o’clock in the high school auditorium. At this time the High School Glee Club will give a “Spring Medley” under the di rection of Miss Willoughby. The public is invited.
