Vnhydrous Ammonia
Used More Extensively
Anhydrous ammonia as a source of
itrogen for com is being used more
Ktensively this year, according to
ounty Agent C. W. Overman. Sev
ral farmers applied one hundred
ounds of anhydrous ammonia per
ere before planting. Others are us
ig it prior to or at the last culti
ation. The regular amount of mixed
srtilizer was used, usually 400 to
00 pounds of 5-10-10 per acre at
lanting time.
There has been some misunderstand
ig as to the acid forming of anhy
rous ammonia. The Experiment Sta
ion reports that it will require 152
ounds of dolomitic lime to counter
ct the acid formed by 100 pounds of
le HKydrous ammonia. In other
sed per acre every year for five*
ears it would require an application
f only 760 pounds of dolomitic lime
> off-set the acid formed.

Warm Weather Helps j
To Improve Cotton;
According to County Agent C. W.
Overman, cotton has greatly improved
with the warm weather last week. It
is recovering from the effects of the
cold, rainy weather of two and three
weeks ago. The stand has been cut
some, but will average 80 per cent)
now. The heavy loss of plants in a
few fields necessitated ploughing up
and planting to other crops. No boll
weevil has been detected to date.
