ty sales of Series t and H Savings
bonds for May amounted to $8,121-76.
Sales for the first site months in the
county were $90,142. 4
Americans continued to purchase
more Series E A H Savings Bonds
during May than any other May in 9
years. North Carolina sales for the
month were $3,623,260.00. The com
bined cumulative sales of E A H
Bonds for the first five months of
1964 were $20,866,836.76. “H” Bondi
sales in North
an increase of 21.5 per cent over the
same period in 1968.
Mr. Harless says bankers in the
community will be,pleaded to advise
regarding the Series E & H bonds and;
urges all citizens of this county to
invest regularly in \y. S. ( Savings
bonds.

Stephen Alford, area .Supervisor for
the North Carolina Veterans Commis
sion, was the principal speaker at last
week's Rotary meeting and was intro-.
duced by Elton Forehand,: Jr., who had
charge of the program.
Mr. Alford explained the work of.
the Commission which, he said, is
primarily to aid and assist veterans of
all wars. He said there-are > over 20,-
000,000 men in the country who are
classified as veterans, which is about
one-eighth of the nation's population.

Mr. Alford listed hospitalization, in- 1
suranee and the GI Bill for World War I

Officers of Tribe Elected
At Meeting Monday
Night
At Monday night’s meeting of Cho
wan Tribe, No. 12, Improved Order of
Red Men, officers for the next six
month term were elected.
As the result of the election Raleigh
B. Hollcwell will serve as sachem,
Walter Bond as prophet, William Bar
row as senior sagamore and Carl
Keeter as junior sagamore.
These officers, together with those
appointed by the new sachem, are
scheduled to be installed at next Mon
day night’s meeting.

agents, “we are recommending that '
you examine your fields and if 10%
of the squares are punctured, begin c
dusting at once.
“For best results, you should start
dusting this week. Use 20% toxa
phene dust, 8 to 10 pounds per ap
plication. You should make a weevil
count once a week and continue with
I your dusting program at 7-day inter
vals until the percentage of punctured
squares drops below 10%.”
