Phone 9 Edenton them,” says County Agent C. W. Over- 1 man. | A very unusual event occurred on Wednesday afternoon of last week on the Sandy Point farm. On that day Thomas Jackson, operator of the farm, I had a rain on his pasture while the I sun was shining very brightly. This rain was made possible by the use of four irrigation systems which were used in an irrigation demonstration. Howard Ellis, in charge of Agricul tural Engineering Extension, was in I charge of the irrigation demonstra tion. Mr. Ellis explained the fundamen tals of irrigation to the group and gave them a few precautions to oh-j serve before purchasing an irrigation' outfit. He said that a farmer should never do any panic buying when pur chasing an irrigation outfit. Each out fit must be adapted to the farm for which it is designed to serve: other wise it will never be satisfactory. The irrigation engineer who designs the system must be familiar with the fields on which the irrigation is to he used, as the water should only be ap plied as fast as it will soak in the ground. The engineer must also know the location of the water supply, the amount of water available, and the distance the water must be pumped. Therefore, Mr. Ellis advises farmers to take time when they select an ir rigation unit instead of expecting to be able to call a dealer up and ask him I to give them immediate delivery on an j rrigation outfit. Their The Feastday Os ST. ANN JULY 26, 1954 t * , It is the glory of God and in honor of St. Ann that the Cath olics of Edenton have dedicated their church. All are welcome. St. Ann is the traditional name of the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To her and to her husband, Joachim, was! bom late in life the child God’s own messenger, the Angel Gabriel, was to call “full of grace, bleased among women” (Luke 1:28). It was this good mother whose training and example, after God’s grace, prepared Mary for the great honor and singular privilege of giving birth to our Lord and Savi our Jesus Christ. For this reason since earliest Christian times St, '■ Ann has been looked upon as a model mother. Tradition tells us that e the body of St. Ann was brought to France by Lazarus and his sisters, | Martha and Mary, after they had been expelled from the Holy Land in -. I an early persecution. In an original letter that still exists, the Emper sj or Charlemegne (742-814) tells of the finding of her tomb. Prayer from the Mass of the Feast O God, who was pleased to bestow upon Blessed Ann the grace whereby she merited to become the mother of her who brought forth Thine only-begotten Son: mercifully grant that we who F celebrate her feast may be aided by her patronage with Thee, -i through the same Our Lord Jesus Christ who lives and reigns with Thee in the Unity of the Holy Spirit, world without y ; end.
