Emerson M. Ward Named On County F. H. A. Committee Joins Joe A. Webb, Jr., And Janies L. Hassell For Chowan Emerson M. Ward of Tyner is the newly appointed member of the Cho wan County Farmers Home Adminis tration committee, E. F. Morgan, the agency’s county supervisor has an nounced. The appointment became ef fective July 1, 1954. Mr. Ward operates a general farm in the Tyner section of the county and actively participates in all community activities. The other two members of the 3- member committee are Joe A. Webb, Jr., and James L. Hassell. These two men also are engaged in farming and are interested in the welfare of the farmer. Each member is named for a 3-vear term, and one appointment expires each year. No member completing a 3-year term can succeed himself. Every agricultural county in the country has su-h a committee to help the Farmers Home Administration county supervisor adapt the agency’s loan policies to local conditions includ ing farm credit needs. The Farmer;. Home Administration makes loans to family-type farm op erators to buy improve, or operate ef ficient farms. Special livestock loans are made where temporary credi , is reeded to enable the operator to re main in operation. Tiic agency also makes emergency loans in counties or , States that have been designated by the Secretary of Agriculture as areas, where emergency credit is needed.! However, the agency does not make' loans of any type to any applicant whose needs can be handled by other i credit sources. I 1 Before any money can be borrowed ; through the agency, an applicant must have the approval of the county com mittee. In the case of a farm owner ship loan, the farm to be purchased, enlarged, or improved must also be approved by the committee, the coun ty supervisor explained.
