Edenton Jaycees Will Help Finance # Olympic Teams Each Member Asked to “Sponsor” One Money Container Joe Conger, Jr., president of the Edenton Junior Chamber of Com merce, announces that Edenton Jay cees are participating with 2,750 oth er Junior Chamber chapters in a na tionwide drive to send U. S. teams to the 1956 Olympic Games and to the 1955 Pan American Games in Mexi co City. He said the U. S. Junior Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the U. S. Olympic Committee, LIFE Mag azine and other organizations, is spearheading a nation-wide “Money March’ to finance expense of send ing U. S. athletes to Australia, Italy and Mexico. The drive began the week of Octo ber 10th and will continue through December 15. President Eisenhower has been authorized to proclaim Octo ber 16 as National Olympic Day in conjunction with the fund-raising drive. Each Jaycee is to “sponsor” one money container and to fill it at foot ball games and other athletic events in coordination with a national press, radio, and television publicity cam paign to help raise the more than one million dollars needed to finance the team. In contrast to “Iron Curtain” coun tries where athletic teams are 100 per cent government subsidized, the U. S. Olympic team will be a truly representative “people’s” team sup ported by the nickels, dimes, quarters and dollars donated by the American people. I ■ Co.
