N PTA And Eastern Star Sponsor Music Recital Edenton’s Parent-Teacher Associa tion and the Order of the Eastern Star will sponsor an organ recital by War ren Glocke of Baltimore. The recital will be held in the Masonic Temple Monday night, December 13. Mr. Glocke will have two assistants, who will render violin and vocal music, including Christmas numbers. A chicken salad supper will be serv ed at 7 o’clock and the recital will fol low at 8 o’clock. Tickets are now on sale for the re cital and supper as well as for the re cital alone. The Holt team had some powerful and de ceptive ball carriers, but the Edenton line refused to yield and on two oc casions stopped close bids for touch downs near the 10-yard stripe. The entire line tackled hard and opened holes for the Edenton backfteld to gain ground. Each member of the team could be singled out as a star performer. Holt kicked to start the game and Whitson returned from the 9 to the 28. In three plays Holland and Wright went to the 40 for a first down. After Stilley gained 3 and Holland lost 2 on a fumble, Holland passed to Rogerson, who went to the Holt 39 for a first down. Another ' pass from Holland to Rogerson was completed for a first down. Wright and Stilley made 3 yards and Holland then again connected with Rogerson, who carried to the Holt 9. Wright picked up 5 yards and Holland then rammed through for the first touch down. Rogerson’s kick was no good. After Edenton kicked Chester re turned to the 35. Hanford and Mills carried to their own 47 for a first down. After Fogleman and Hanford netted 4 yards Isley snagged a pass and raced for the tieing touchdown. The kick for extra point was blocked by Jerry Downum. | Holt kicked and Whitson returned from the 10 to his own 25. On the next play he carried to the 36 for a first down. Holland and Wright add ed 9 yards and then Wright rammed way to his own 49 for a first down. Wright and Stilley gained 5 and Har rison carried to the Holt 37 for a first down. On the next play Stilley bull ed his way to the 25 for a first down as the quarter eqded. 1 Opening the second quarter Harri son gained 6 and then Stilley raced 19 yards for the Aces’ second touchdown, and cracked the line for the extra point, putting the Aces ahead 13-6. Holt returned the kick to their own 44. Hanford gained 2 and was then thrown for a 3-yard loss by Downum.; Harrison then intercepted a pass on , the Edenton 40, but in four plays, plus a 5-yard penalty and a recovered fum ble, the Aces were forced to kick. Holt returned to their own 47 and after Hanford picked up 3 Estes went for a first down to the Edenton 32. After ;a pass good for 4 yards Hanford car ried. to the Edenton 21. Chester pick led up and a pass was good for a first down on the Edenton 10. Estes pick ed up 4 yards. Hanford none and Es tes but 1, and on the next play Harri son threw a monkey wrench in the bid 'for a touchdown by throwing Hanford for a loss back on the 8-yard line., Edenton took over on the 8 and Hol-| land picked up 7 yards on two plays! as the half ended with the Aces ahead 13-6. The Aces kicked to start the half and the visitors began to roll. Fogle man and Hanford gained 8 yards and then Hanford went to the Edenton 43 for a first down. Ward, Hanford and Fogleman then carried to the 32 for a first down, from where Estes grabbed a pass and ran 30 yards for a touch down. The kick was good, so that the score wastied at 13-13. T. Medford Presided Over Inter esting Session The 44th annual session of the Al bemarle Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church was held the latter part of last week at historical Kadesh A.M.E. Zion Church on Gale Street with Bishop H. T. Medford, D.D., Epis copal Supervisor, presiding. This conference, attended by 100 pastors and delegates together with an equal number of lay delegates, was historic in that it is the second annual conference of the southern area of the ed up 3 yards and then Holland pass ed to Stilley who went to his own 44 for a first down. Wright and Harri son netted five yards and Wright bull ed his way to the Holt 44 for a first down. Holland then passed to Roger son for a 25-yard gain, going to the Holt 19. After Stilley picked up 9, Wright went the distance for a touch | down. Stilley crashed over for the extra point, putting the Aces out in' front 20-13. Hanford returned the Edenton kickj from his 20 to 35. A pass failed and Chester gained 5. Hanford then snagged a pass and went to the Eden ton 45 for a first down. Fogleman added 6 and Chester made a first down at the Edenton 32. Estes and Ward added 8 and Hanford went to the 20 for a first down as the quarter ended. Ward and Chester on four plays were able to gain only 8 yards, so that it was the Aces ball on their own 12. Holland, Wright and Stilley carried for a first down but the Aces were penalized 15 and put the hall back on the 4.- Holland then clipped off 16 ■ yards just short of a first down. | Wright fumbled but recovered after picking up 4. A pass failed and Hol land lacked just a little for a first down in two plays. It was Holt’s ball on the Edenton 31. A pass failed and Esten then carried to the 19 for a first down. Ward followed with 14 yards, putting the ball on the Edenton 5. Es tes lost 4 and a pass was completed to the 2, from where Estes crashed through for the touchdown. The try for the extra point was good, so that the score was again tied at 20-20. With about four minutes remaining , in the game Holt kicked and when Whitson gathered in the ball he raced jBS yards for the wanning touchdown,' and Stilley went through the line for I the extra point, putting the Aces ahead 27-20. Edenton kicked out of bounds and the ball was put in play on the Holt I 40. Holt gained 20 yards but was call : ed back for a 15-yard penalty. Zion Church, hav ing been organized in 1866, one year after the emancipation of the slaves, by the late Bishop J. W. Hood. Out of this conference was established the Edenton Normal and Industrial School v'hich operated for many years on the grounds now' hack of the church par sonage. The Albemarle Conference is made up of churches in Chowan, Cur rituck, Camden, Pasquotank, Bertie and Washington counties with more than 150 pastoral appointments. The A.M.E. Zion Church, of which the meeting here is a part and called the Albemarle Conference was organ ized in New York City in 1796 with a membership of about 35 people and has since growm to a membership of over 700,000, with conferences in ev ery state in the nation, in Africa, South America where it maintains In dustrial schools and colleges. The A.M.E. Zion Church also maintains an “A” grade College (Livingstone) in Salisbury, N. C„ and two secondary schools in Rock Hill, S. C., and Green ville. Ala. The Church is headed by 12 Bishops and has 45 Annual Confer ences in America and other countries. The Opening and Communion ser mon was delivered by the host-pastor, the Rev. H. H. Grier with music fur nished by the conference choir, Mrs. S. J. Medford, wife of the Bishop, di recting. Among the visitors presented to the conference were Dr. W. R. Lovell, editor of the Star of Zion, Charlotte, N. C.; the Revs. A. C. Littlejohn, New !port News, Va., B. T. Medford. Lan caster, S. C„ H. J. Johnson. Tarrv ! town, N. Y„ E. L. Beamon, Norfolk, jVa., and Presiding Elder Platt, Suf folk, Va., with two of his pastors from his area, the Revs. M. D. Nathan and R. R. Purnell.
