DROUGHT REDUCES YIELD
N. C. SWEET POTATOES
The severe drought was primari
ly responsible for the decrease in
tile average yield per acre of sweet
potatoes from 105 bushels in 1958
to 93 bushels in 1954. The 1953 av
erage yield per acre was the lowest
since 1941, although the average
yield per acre in 1951 was down to
94 bushels.
Sweet potato production in the
State during 1954 totaled 3,999,000
bushels. This is 831,000 bushels or
• 17 percent less than the 1953 crop
jof 4.830,000 bushels.
