Tickets wilt go on sale this
week-end, which will entitle the
bearer to a complete dinner and
beverage.
The purpose of this dinner is to
help rafce funds to pay for the
new uniforms for the Edenton Jun
ior-Senior High School Band, so
that it is hoped many people will
patronise the dinner.

the 22nd day of May, 1956, and im
mediately thereafter publicly open
ed and read, for the furnishing of
labor, materials, and equipment for
the street improvement project for
the Toiwn of Edenton, Edenton,
North Carolina.

Greenville, N. €., or may be ob
tained Iby those qualified and who
will make a bid upon deposit of ten
dollars ($10.00) in cash or certi
fied cheek. The full deposit will be
returned to those submitting a

Man’s stewardship of the land is
being emphasized in Chowan Coun
ty this week, May 6-12, according
to L. C. Bunch, chairman of tlje
Albemarle Soil Conservation Dis
trict.
This period has been designated
by Governor Luther H. Hodges for
the observance of Soil Stewardship
Week which is being observed this
year throughout North Carolina.
The purpose of Soil Stewardship
Week, which is sponsored nation
wide by the National Association
of Soil Conservation Districts is
“to remind people in all walks of
life that man is but a steward, not
owner, of God’s soil, water and
plants.”
The observance was started as
Soil Stewardship Sunday 10 years
ago by a Southern farm maga
zine, Farm and Ranch. The. re
sponse of ministers and laymen
was so great that the soil steward
ship idea spread rapidly. The Na
