PAGE TWO ■SECTION ONE Youngster Dies As Result Os Drinking Quantity Kerosene 17 Months Old William Ward Dies Friday In Hospital William Ward, 17-months-old son of Mrs. Retha Ward, died in Cho wan Hospital at 2:80 o’clock Fri day afternoon as the result of drinking kerosene. The child found a pop bottle with kerosene in it and drank a portion of it. The boy’s survivors are his moth er and grandmother, Mrs. Ella Peer. Funeral services were held at the Ziegler Funeral Home Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock. The Rev. R. P. Phelps officiated. Burial was in Beaver Hill Cemetery. The guest for Sun day evening will be the Rev. G. M. Singletary. The Rev. W. B. A Planning Board zoning ordi ■ nance was presented at the meet ing and John Mitchener and J. Ed win Bufflap were appointed a com mittee to study the ordinance and bring back recommendations at the next meeting. The purpose of the Planning Board is to make careful and com prehensive surveys and-studies of present conditions and future growth of the Municipality and with due regard to its relation to neighborhood territory. The plan shall be made with the general pur pose of guiding and accomplishing a coordinated, adjusted and har monious development of the Muni cipality and its environs which will, in accordance with present and fu ture needs, best promote health, safety, morals, order, convenience, prosperity and general welfare, as well as efficiency and economy in the process of development, in cluding, among other things, ade quate provisions for traffic, the promotion of safety from fire and other dangers, adequate provision for light and air, the promotion of the healthful and convenient distri-. hution of population, the promotion of good civic design and arrange ment, wise and efficient expendi ture of public funds and the ade quate provision of public utilities and other public requirements. A discussion of personnel policy for the town was continued until tjie next meeting. During the meeting bids were opened for a car for the Police De partment and a truck for the Street Department. Byrum Implement & Truck Company was low bidder for an International truck for SI,BOO. The BBH Motor Company was low bidder for a Chevrolet for the Po lice Department at $1,432.75, allow ing SBOO on the old car. Due to the complications of an insurance program for the town, it was decided to hold a special meet ing Friday night, August 24 to consider this matter. A request was made to pass an ordinance prohibiting fishing from the Johnson bridge, but due to this bridge being private property, the Councilmen took ho action.
